Suggestions-
I have a 79 SN with a 351 /new long block(about 300 hrs), and in the process of redoing my 83 SN which also has the 351- Should I change motors as when I'm done with the 83 restore will probably sell the 79. Can't go through another redo |

John,
If I understand correctly, you have a rebuilt 351 out of the 79 that you want to put in the restored 83 correct? What's the issue with the engine in the 83 you are restoring? Why not keep it in the 83? |

Correct. The 83 was not taken care of as was the 79. We just took the 79 out for a spin runs great.
The 83 I have gotten to run but sure needs work. When I checked compression it was cold but all were around 112. PO mounted the coil to the valve cover, ????? you would have to see it |

John, Are the ID plates still on both transmissions? Take a look but they should be the same. |

Finally checked and the 79 is a -001 and the 83 is -003. From what I read the 003 is better. Where would I find a rebuild kit?

It is not soo much better that you would likely ever notice, but yes generally later is better. www.ebasicpower.com for parts and rebuild kits. |

John,
Were ether of the Trans's bad? Wondering why the rebuild is needed. My 64 Velvet still runs without ever being touched. |

Here's a link to an old thread. The 003 is beefier in the reverse section.
Like Joe said, not much difference and Ebasic power is a good outfit for Borg Warner parts link |
