hi guys

I have a leak at my water fitting on my velvet drive oil cooler does anyone know if i can install any type of newer style cooler with flex stainless lines? it is tight down there and my old one has been soldered before.i wouldnt mind updating to something easier to pipe .. any ideas??   
former skylark owner now a formula but I cant let this place go

Peter, Sounds like some one has been using a single wrench on the cooler fittings. The cooler being a light copper with brass fittings, they need to be double wrench when tightening to avoid breaking open it's shell.

Yes you can use what's available today but if anything, they are even a lighter construction so care is needed when installing them. Stainless oil lines aren't needed. Flex rubber hydraulic lines with SAE flare fittins will do. I'm sure you're going to need some elbows (flare again) to make it work.

on the velvets, it is mostly cascading oil under very little pressure, so the problem must be a knicked fitting or a slight crack, like pete said the coolers are designed with a hex on them to use a wrench on the hex and one on the fitting

BEWARE...If you use braided stainless (AN fittings like race cars use) make sure to use teflon lined hose. Trans fluid will attack the rubber on some AN braided hose and can ruin the velvet drive.

Just a heads up.
