What's the red stuff under the gas tank, padding? My Mustang would still have the tempo tank in it if I had caught it early enough. The epoxy paint got rubbed off where it made contact on the boat and it rusted a small hole into it. The mounting used back then wasn't the best, just a block of wood on each end overlapping the lip on the tank.

According to the Spec sheet that GaryS sent me awhile back there's 215 horses under the hood at 4400rpm. Unfortunately the Tach doesn't work and I trashed the timing light ignition wire clip just after I tuned it up at idle. %$#@! Tim the red stuff is red paint on the tank. The block of wood holding the lip of the tank has held up for 44 years so that's what went right back in. If it ain't broke don't fix it and if it won't fit use a bigger hammer, if it breaks then it needin fixin anyway! |

Okay so this is about all there is to the 72's final restore and to make it as close to OEM as possible. Big shout to storm34 for bringing me the needed parts to finish the exterior. The parts came off a Ski Tique that a friend of his was parting out so a sacrifice was made from one to save another. The vented windshield was not available on the Mustang in 1972 but in TimBob's world it was an "optional upgrade" for $50 more. The vinyl on the scoops had lost their color but were actually in great shape. A couple of small tears and disbonds from the scoop themselves so a little rubber cement fixed it right up. I used the same paint I used on the stripes and had one of our guys in the paint shop shoot them for me. Came out way nicer than I thought. So pretty much all that's left to fix is some gelcoat cracks and chips. I'll tackle those jobs here and there or wait till winter to address those. Will also look into getting the speedo working properly and the tach rebuilt too.
Ya'll know where the spare tire cover came from so thanks to martymabe for sending that down to me as well. He'll definitely turn some more heads this summer as most locals haven't seen a 70's Granny Smith Apple Green boat before , let alone one that has a V-8 in it. Summit Racing Distribution Center has cruise ins on Mondays all summer so I will probably take it down there as well. May end up with a connection or two for tach and speedo rebuilds and who knows what else. Might get lucky and score a Kim or two. |

Tim,
Now you've done it! The vents look so good you'll need completely new upholstery to match! |

Yes, I have been one of the fortunate few to have driven Kermit. Got to tell this story. Was driving Kermit pulling Morfoot slalom, no observer, legal with mirror. Making tight turn to port u-turn in small cove. Our other skiing buds were on a boat, anchored, to our starboard side as i made the turn. Out of the corner of my eye I see Alan Tetaly throw a football, from the anchored boat, toward Morfoot. Well, I am concentrating on driving, and not damaging Kermit or Morfoot.. Damn if Morfoot doesn't catch that football. That was a great catch! And throw! Kermit drives great indeed! |

(Tim saw my windshield and decided he needed one just like it. A little rarer, I think. I think the unpainted ones were only on the 76 tique, but I could be wrong.) |

Windshield looks awesome. The boat looked good before but really shines now. Removing the snaps and filling the holes included in this?
I see you turned your crash pad loop around but it does look a little crooked. |

Wow you guys are tough! Me thinks I turned a little tight with Dads truck at the Ruckus and adjusted the Bow stop with the bumber on the spare tire carrier. I winged the adjustment when the boat was off the trailer and in the river. I'll have to fix it later. Y'all picked up on the crooked stuff and not the scraped paint? Time will tell how the oil based paint holds up on the vinyl. HW....I posed the same question to a couple of the guys about removing the snaps and filling in the holes with Gel. I don't see me getting a cover with snaps so I indeed will remove them. Thanks for the compliments guys. I really love the transformation. Looking forward to getting him out and turning some heads. |

Boat looks awesome Tim!
Has anyone done this on here? Just curious if there is any tricks to it. I want to get a new cover for our Sport and get rid of all the snaps. Already removed the tower mounts so those holes are there too. I assume you need to put a backer in the hole to prevent resin from just going through to the inside. |

Craig,
The hardest part of any gel repair or hole fill is matching the gel color. Even if you got gel to match the original, chance are high that it won't match. I know that even pro glass guys will tint OEM gels. I suggest starting at the snap holes that you can see the least and see how close you can get with the color. The black shouldn't be too bad. It's the deck that will be hard. Backing depends on how big the hole is. Small holes may only need a piece of tape. Bigger ones that are deep, you can back up or even carve a piece of wood to fit from the back. |

I must ask, was this putting in or pulling out (post XX Morfoot consumptions)? I would have thought you'd push the tire before the 4 way bolted loop, unless you maxed that out first and then went the loop... |

That's just awesome Tim. I got to ski behind that boat several years ago when Godfather had it which was a really amazing experience. I can only imagine that it's even better now.

Tim, the spare tire mount was made by a bud of mine here at work who welds up fixtures, stands etc for the engine mtc depts. Plenty of scrap metal lying round to use. Thanks for the compliments guys..... It's a fun boat to drive for sure and isn't that bad to ski behind really. Pete, actually, I have a friend who wants to give me her late husbands (and Fraternity Brother of mine I was close with) GREEN high top Converse tennis shoes. I'll be sporting those before too long. Will try and get a green bikini shot with the boat in the water sometime this summer just to add that little extra added touch. |
