BKH, don't get me wrong I am greatful that my in-laws wont come to the lake. I just get tired if them complaining we never ask them to go. When we ask they always say they are busy and complain again that we never go when they can go.

I enjoy pulling a couple of tubes before an evening set.

Tubing is like watching a movie you have seen one hundred times. You watch the movie because you like, you know how it ends but you watch anyway. Tubing is the same requires no skill to ride around on it, unless the driver makes you work at staying. You know how it ends someone falls off. It passes the time. I didn't see anyone trying to make tubing a new event at a ski show.

Everyone that goes to lake with me enjoys skiing, but they also like to tube sometimes. So everyone that wants to ski, skiis as many times as they want to. Then we hang out drink some, then ride tubes if we feel like it. Then we go back to the dock let the water calm down in the cove and try some more skiing and footing at the very end. No harm no foul and everyone comes back next week.

Wow! I can't believe this post has grown this much in the past 24hrs.

I am not a big fan of the tube either, but I have one. I pull my 4-yr old in it at the end of the day after he has already been out on the kneeboard and ski'd on the boom. At two, he was too small to kneeboard or ski, so we put him on the tube so he wouldn't get bored watching everyone else ski while he had to sit in the boat. You have to find something to keep them interested until they are ready to try different things, otherwise they are ready to go home just after you get to the water.

And I hate inflating and deflating that tube whenever someone wants to use it, but it's no fun to go boating by myself.

Tim, You didn't put a smiley face on this statement but I sure hope you were joking. That gang is whacky and they have a blast on the water. I wish I didn't live so far away so I could SKI with them more often.

Alan, my last statement was not sarcastic. What right does HW have to dictate how others enjoy the time spent on his boat?

HW, I know you do. Same deal here.

Brian, we are way past chopping up the waterways now. I've enjoyed this thread, even if it is about tubing. We don't have lakefront property, so inflating/deflating and storing tubes has been a hassle in the past. To me, it's just not worth it anymore.

Tim: We teach kids and newbs to ski all the time. I don't always take and/or share the video/pics of it because it is rather meaningless to strangers. I've posted pics on this site of kids first time skiing on the boom in the past. We also had more "firsts" at Shelbyville this year.

Other than that purpose you can throw them in the trash can.

Am I biased? Yes. Like many here I skiid competitively at one time. Am I selfish? Yes, When it comes to my skiing, I get one opportunity a week to get out and I pray all the way to the river that the conditions will be nice just to pull in the lot and see the bayliners offloading with 2 tubes hanging off the back. Am I a courteous, conscientious driver YES, we stop or get out of the way when we see a boat with a slalom skier or boom headed our way. Most tube drivers don't have a clue and continue to do their snake dance right in their path.

I suppose I have more of a problem with Wally drivers but it seems tubes and wallys go hand in hand.

It's a shame I don't have a 140+ cm wakeboard so my larger friends can't enjoy themselves on that. Too bad I don't have a jump so I can't teach people to do that either. Maybe I should pick up some jetskis incase one of my friends has the itch to do that. I'm biased and judgemental because combo skis, slalom skis, kneeboards, barefoot gear, trick ski, wakeskate and wakeboard just isn't enough. Nobody has ever turned down a trip to the lake with me because they couldn't tube.

As CQ just pointed out, tubing doesn't necessarily translate into real watersports.

All the above is certain, and I am sure you are a great friend for offering to take them out. But the question is, what happens when one of them wants to tube? What if one of them isnt really worried about being trueblue watesports fan and just wants to get yanked around by the boat for a while. No one is making any assumpting that tubing is any kind of watersport, but I dont think its wrong fo people to enjoy themselves ding something that isnt quite so committed either. Its like telling your kids they cant throw a Nerf football because they use pigskin in the real sport. Maybe not everyone is looking to turn pro and they just want to have a good time. Your opinions are fine as long as they are are yours, but when you thrust them upon others because you think that purity of watersports is paramount, then its an issue. I am not saying your wrong for your views because they are yours. I promise I'll never ask you to pull a tube, and I'll never chop up your waterway with mine. Deal?

HW, he makes a good point. You might want to reconsider your position- the pics/videos Ive seen of the PLBC escapades rarely show anyone enjoying themselves. I dont see why you cant be more accomodating of your guests when they come hang out on your boat. Its not like a few inflated tubes take up much room.
