If there is slack in your throttle cable, you can use it to pull it through. Mine was zip tied all the way down when I tried to snake the perfect pass wires in between the small space between the stringer and the cooler. Real PIA in my case.

I did a very similar thing when I added a piggy back ground to my dash:

It's what's used to pull wires through conduit. No hard conduit for you electric required in your area? How about commercial and industrial electrics? Here's a proper link to a fish tape Dakota posted. |

Fish tape is similar to wire on a spool. It is easy to feed in holes.

Sorry but what is a fish tape. Like a small tape measure? and also where did you end up mounting your transducer? Was it a thru hull style?

I recently had to do this on my 93 sport and I ended up stuffing a fish tape down the hole under the kick space and managed to get it to come out in the bilge in a few tries. It was surprisingly painless; it took maybe five minutes.

If you have an old transducer that is unused, you can use that old cable to pull the new one through. If your new 'ducer is through-hull, the opposing side from the engine sea valve seems to a popular spot.
If you are doing the in-hull method, fill a zip lock bag with water (no air bubbles) and place it on the hull with the ducer pressed onto it. Move the bag around until you get best signal return at speed and then install it in that location. |

I have a 96 sport nautique and just got my faria depth finder with a thru hull transducer. I took off the foot kick under the dash and see about a 3 inch hole with alot of wires running down. The faria transducer is wired so I have to run the cable up from the bilge to under the dash. Does anybody have a good way of doing this.
Also would the flat area on bottom of hull underneith the transmission be a good spot for the transducer. Thanks |
