I've got a 3 year old ARCO alternator (Model #60050) in my 1994 Ski Nautique with Pro Boss engine.
The voltmeter shows 14-15V when the engine is running. I thought that the gauge might be bad (20 years old), so I put in a new voltmeter. Same. 14-15V wen engine is running. Is that too much? JQ |

Rob,
The 15 is on the high end but 14 would be normal especially if the battery needs charging. What kind of battery do you have? Hopefully it's NOT a deep cycle!. I do suggest you go and purchase a $18.00 VOM BEFORE and test first before just replacing a gauge thinking it's bad. |

Battery = Optima (non deep cycle) VOM Test First = You are correct. I should have purchased a tester...but I spent $35 on a new voltmeter, betting that the 20 year old gauge is bad. |

14.5v is normal above idle, but I would recommend a load test on the battery especially if it is the original (1994).
