Got to take it out on a shakedown cruise this PM. Runnin' smooth. Love the Acme 470 prop.

It would only turn 4200 so I still must have something amiss, will check tming next. I noticed the temp go down to 150 degrees when running fast & then go back up to 180 at idle - must be a bad t'stat.

Thanks everyone on this site for helping me rebuild the drive line. I couldn't have done this (right at least) without the advice.

Now all we need is some 80 degree weather!

I would say youre right about leaving something on the table performance-wise. Have you done a full tune up? Definitely set the timing properly. I would expect you to turn ~4600 with that prop.

I doubt its the 'stat causing your problems. Sounds like a minor air leak. Go through all of your cooling hoses, paying special attention to the ones before the RWP. Tighten all the hose clamps with a 5/16" wrench (not a screwdriver). Also tighten the strainer bowl as much as you can. That should bring your temps down at idle.

TRB - Thanks for the advice, will proceed with tuneup. I noticed that the last 15% of throttle travel had no affect on RPM - maybe secondaries aren't opening?

Anyway. it feels great to be on the water - the rest of these problems just gives me something to tweak while waiting for better weather..

Chris, Check out the hoses. I feel Tim's on to the problem. What is happening is as the boat is moving, it is forcing water into the through hull pick up but at idle it is sucking some air in a hose leak.

On a hunch, I checked the temp sending unit wire connection. Bingo, it was loose. Hopefully, this solves the erratic temp problem.

On another note, I rechecked the alignment when the boat was in the water, but nose on the trailer. The alignment had changed quite a bit (about .004).

I checked it again on the trailer at home & it came back to the original state.

I'm definately going to recheck fully floating - I was suprised how much it changes from the hull support.

i should be ashamed and I said they dont change that much on these rigid hulls....would you consider a couple thousandths not that much?

it is a good example of doing the align in the water, they should really be done in the water if you can, but the good thing is at least alignments are being checked, even on the trailer

Next check: timing

I put new points in & the timing at idle was right on 10 deg.

However, I think the advance may be slow.

Per another post I read, timing at 1500 RPM should be 21; @ 3100 should be 37 degrees.

I have 18 deg @ 1500, never got past 30 deg even above 4000 RPM.

I had checked the weights & they were free, the springs were rusty but otherwise looked right (1 tight, the other loose).

What do you guys think, is my advance curve OK or not?
