I keep expecting Tim Benjamin to bite on that boat however it takes a pretty good size trailer, truck, and workspace to handle that bad boy though. Only guy I know with that stuff already has too many big boats… If anyone really wants to make it happen it is about an hour and a half from my house and I would be happy to help with logistics and be a stopover along the route. Steve if it is only the hardtop that is stopping you I can have that thing removed and stowed in the nearest landfill before you could get yourself here to pick it up.

If we lived at the lake, I would love that boat. It just doesn't fit our needs right now. Good price, but even at free, someone if going to put a lot of time and money into getting it back to being worth it.

Maybe the SJ could be called a poor man's G23? Bet it throws a mean wake.
My hope is to find a Cuddy at a reasonable price someday. And though twins make little practical sense, I really like the cool factor of a twin engine setup. Twin 302's would be awesome. I'm curious what the 6 cylinder 292's were rated at, have a feeling a single warmed up (300 HP) 351 might have nearly the same power as those twin 6's. |

Two motor boxes in that boat leave little room for much else. Great color though.

That San Juan needs a couple Cobra Jet motors and an intercoastal zip code.

I looked and couldn't find the picture!
I think we need to nail down what engines he has. He states "Chev's" but are they Ford 292 Y's (even though the year would be late for a Y)? |

I don't know. I'm not sure Gary has a clock in his Shamrock (why would he?) so I don't think he'll be any help.

It's a very good chance since CC was using some OMC's back then. Good find! |

Pete, he said "Chevy inline 6 292", so not much doubt there. I posted all the pictures he sent me. |

Told this story before. Got to drive a San Juan with a fly bridge and twins back in 1976. Was a Correct Craft newbie back then; was just introduced to CCs while working a summer job at Lanier Harbor Marina-Correct Craft dealer. Did not think to open the motor boxes and check out the engines.
Had this retired Navy Captain (at least he was referred to as "Captain")who took me out with him on his '75 San Juan. He got falling down drunk on the cruise and I had the pleasure of driving the boat back and getting her trailered out of the lake. Thinking back, I should have really run that boat up that day, but was concerned about the Captain and wanted to get him back to the dock; and his beautiful boat back intact. Great ride! |

Sounds very nice! 165 HP isn't bad, thought they would be rated lower than that. |

The Mercruiser 292 I6 GMs were rated at 200 or 205hp( I believe it depended on the year and they were only available for two or three years) and had 4V carbs and a hotter cam than the truck engine. They were torque monsters because it was basically a tall block 250 with a longer stroke. They came on a Mercruiser I setup and parts have been N/A for those for a long time. They had a raw water pickup through the hull and a raw water pump like an inboard and could be used in inboard applications. Like many inline Mercruisers the intake manifold incorporated into the exhaust manifold was raw water cooled to keep the charge very cool and dense. The Mercruiser 302 of this era was rated at 188hp and was much heavier. IMHO I believe the twin 292s would perform better than 302s but it's hard to beat a 350 or 351. I am not aware of a 292 OMC, are you sure? Here is a Mercruiser / GM 292 in a 1970 Mark Twain in immaculate condition. I considered this boat before my Mustang but like an SN it was too big to pull much farther than the boat ramp with my car. In addition the inevitable engine swap when the Mercuriser I failed would be very expensive since it used a really big octagonal hole in the transom that would have to be reworked and new engine mounts glassed in. This was a solid 50mph boat and pulled very hard for an I/O. |

Solid boat. I can't imagine the 351 gets that boat on plane. The 454 was probably a much better choice of power! Ken |

I've seen that one for sale for a while now. Looks like a very nice boat, and I guess the price reflects that.
I don't know, 23' boat weighing maybe 5,000 lbs. or so. There are pretty solid 23' center consoles weighing that that are powered with 250 HP outboards. So maybe a 240 HP 351 would be challenged to move it on plane quickly, but I bet it gets it there in reasonable time and is very efficient at cruise speed. I agree though, would rather have the 454 in this boat! |

Has this '89 2001 in Orlando been posted yet?
Anyone happen to know anything about it? 816 Hours supposedly. Good price if it is like he describes. Then why hasn't it been sold, it's been up for months already. I might be interested, but would have to sell mine first. |

I agree with you Dave. We are so used to our overpowered rockets that we expect that they all run that way. I wonder if a 454 would use less fuel once you got it going? I also wonder since its such a large boat if the weight gain from a 351 to 454 would even be noticed |

Doubt the weight difference of the 454 would be felt much at all. I think it would be hard to beat the efficiency of the 351 at moderate cruise speed, say 26-28 mph. Get up over 30 and the 454 might match the fuel burn. Bet top speed with 351 is 36-38 mph.
My 454 experience is with mechanical secondary carb and so I think of it as a fuel gulper. |

I think that's a San Juan, definitely not a Cuddy. I guess you can write anything on the hullsides! |
