Do you guys think it is possible to buy an old beat up Nautique, fix it up and sell for a profit?

I know it is all going to depend on how cheap you can buy one but when I look at boats it appears that you can buy a beat up 2001 model for less than 4k and you can sell a nice one for around 10k.

The perfect match would be to buy one in the fall when prices are low work on it all winter (can't boat anyways) and then sell it the spring when people are ready to buy.

I have no plans to do it but it sure seems possible.

Jon,

Hope you and your family avoided the tornadoes.

My sense is with the boats you get really cheap, you are likely to end up about even on materials by time you replace stringers, floor, carpet, upholstery, decals, and whatever mechanicals are needed. You're probably way behind with your labor.

I would think you're more likely to make money on a flip buying a boat that's in ok shape, and tuning/cleaning it up a bit.

I'm sure you can find the occasional great deal that doesn't need too much work, but I'd bet that's more the exception than the rule. BKH

Jon4, You are not talking about a rare wood boat that when restored will sell for big bucks.(100K plus) Even these boats professionally restored can cost as much or more to restore as the end value. If you do most of your own work and don't count the cost of your own man hours then you may make a profit.

I am in no position to do it. It was just a thought. I am sure it is probably a bad idea but you have to admit these boats pricing seems to be all over the place.

The tornados where no where close to us but what a horrible disaster. Those poor people lost their entire town and it is an area where there would not be much money to start with.
