How to identify a rudder

Chances are high that the 11A is correct since it was used on most models in 78. What model CC did you purchase?

You probably won't find a # on it. Post a picture so we can see what you purchased. Doe it fit the port on the boat?

Hopefully you got the right one. Your ski tique takes a 27 A rudder. It is smaller than the Ski Nautique 11A rudder Pete mentioned.   To see which one you have, the 27A has a 1" shaft, the 11A, a 1 1/4 shaft. If he was right about his rudder coming off an 87, you probably got the bigger 11A, as I dont think any boats had the smaller 27A at that point, as all the 16 and 17 foot boats were done.

Are you saying you dont know for a fact that it is a Ski Tique vs a Ski Nautique? If you are sure its 18 feet and sure that larger rudder fits, and you're sure its a 78, then it sounds like it is a Nautique (or similar). Is there no badge on the dashboard to indicate model?

Either could work. Try both and see which performance you like best. First number is diameter, second number is blade pitch (in inches) it is the theoretical distance the propeller will advance in one rotation. Higher pitch travels faster (i.e. greater distance per revolution) however, higher pitch is more resistance, so will slow engine down a few RPM. Its a balancing act to get the optimal performance.

Is that the photo/camera angle, or does that 11a have a light bend in it???

Welcome to CCFan Jack and congrats on the New to you Nauti! Glad you found us and even though it looks like you've got quite a bit of work to do on the boat, you'll be glad you did in the end. Old boats are just cool and in a modern day world of Surf Machines and pimped out rides Old School is Cool.!

Looks a little bent to me as well but don't fret. It's a slight bend and can be used if it's not binding once you install it. Keep in mind that it can be straightened. I've bent a rudder before and the guys at Delta Propeller were able to fix it.

I see no carb, probably need a marine type for safety as well as alternator should have screens over openings (not at Orielly)

Just found the no spark issue....by holding the wrong wire during ignition lol...our family has a saying " if your gunna be dumb you better be tough!".

Sounds to me like somebody did some rudder tuning on that rudder at some time over the years to affect the steering feel/characteristics.

You can do a search on "rudder tuning" or "rudder filing"

From the factory they were the same on both sides

If you go to NAPA or some marine place, assuming it's the original prestolite use these numbers

points 18-5303

condenser 18-5347

NAPA and Sierra part numbers are the same, the NAPA brand stuff is rebranded Sierra stuff in this case.

You can also cross reference those numbers to whatever brand the place may carry

Get that boat out from under the trees for Gods sake and if your wife sees that rudder in the kitchen your gonna be in big trouble mister. Nice rig, Got a '78 myself.

Hi Jack. The blower lives up under the stern cap and to port a bit. Find and follow the yellow and black wires. They end at the blower. The discharge should engage the louver air box seen on the transom exterior. Blower suction hose gets routed down and along the inside of the port stringer to just under the reversing gear. Bilge pump is where it should be.
