I am thinking about using cherry wood for my dash and as accents in a few other places on my M17. I'm very curious what you guys think about it's ability to hold up to sun and water, etc. Obviously, I'll coat it with tons of epoxy before installing.
The reason I'm thinking of cherry is because I've got this old table I built in college out of cherry. I'm a little sentimental about it, but the table top split down the middle during a move. We hadn't used the table in years anyway (it's a Japanese style table, inspired by a couple of years I spent there as a kid) and I've been trying to think of a good use for the cherry that would work well with my sentimentality about it. Putting it in my M17 seems to work, but I'm not sure if it would be durable enough. |

Only problem you will have with cherry and most other varities of hard wood is that they turn very dark when exposed to the sun. It will look beautiful when first installed but will gradually turn very dark. You can try to find a UV inhibiter to apply instead of epoxy. That's one of the main reasons Teak is used because it is so resistant to the weather.

Oh well. I guess I'll have to make a writing desk out of the old table. Sigh.
