I installed a Kenwood KAC-M1804 400W 4 Channel Compact Class D Marine Amplifier, Kenwood 200 W marine stereo, and 4 3.5" Pyle 200W 3-way speakers. This was a kit from RockTheBoat.com. It works fine but after 20-30 minutes, or higher volume the circuit breaker flips. I have it on the accessory which I think is 10A.
Any ideas? Advice? |

Per the electronics manufacturer, what is the amp draw of the system? The 10 amp breaker may be insufficient. Can your accessory breaker be upgraded to a 15A or 20A?

The specs on that amp show it consuming 15 amps, not including your deck. You need a better power source.

I also suggest checking the wire gauge size for the amp capacity. Just like in your house, you don't install a larger breaker or fuse on an existing circuit without making sure the wire can handle the load. Breaker and wire size needs to be checked BEFORE adding a load. |

Amp requires 10GA power wire. The internal fuse on the amp is 15A so it is likely drawing too much power through your 10A breaker at higher volume levels. Suggest you run 10GA wire from the battery to a 20A inline fuse. and then to your amp's yellow wire. Use the remote lead on your Kenwood head unit to turn the amp on / off. |

I don't have an auto-bilge anymore. Can I put the amp on that switch and the stereo on the accessory switch?

Samantha, You asked for advice and we are trying but it seems you aren't taking the advice. In all due respect, do you have a friend who can help? We'd hate to hear of damage to your electrical. |

Sam,
Help us help you. You should wire your amp directly to the battery using 10GA wire with a minimum 20A inline fuse between the amp and the battery. Also connect the amp's ground directly to the battery (no fuse necessary) also using 10GA wire. You can connect your Kenwood head unit to the accessory breaker (switch) and use the remote power wire on the Kenwood to turn your amp on/off. This way your amp will only turn on when your Kenwood head unit is powered on. Turn off the breaker that powers your head unit and your amp will not receive any power. Please download a manual from the Kenwood web site if you don't already have one. Do not connect the amp to any of your breakers as the amp will draw too much current than the breakers are rated for and the breakers will eventually trip (as you have found out). I would recommend that you keep your auto-bilge, or reconnect it,. as it is a vital component to prevent your boat from sinking! Pleas use Pete's suggestion and find a friend who is familiar with mobile audio systems. He or she can help guide you through this process. |

Just googled that amp, no way it's putting out 400 watts with the dinky pin connector wire harness.
