Got a '84 2001 with Airguide speedos. One is filling with water, but still registers exactly with the other one. Does water run into the speedo unit from the transom pick-up the whole length of the boat, and if so how am getting water in the housing?

Dave, No, water should not be getting to the speedo. You have an internal leak. The commom issue is a crack in the SS bellows inside. Silver solder the crack. You are getting a reading since the speedo is seeing water pressure. Welcome to CCfan. Do you have some pictures to post? |

Thanks, I took it apart and looked for cracks, I guess I will have to try to gently force some water into the bellows and id the crack..
Good call. |

Don't introduce water, use air- lung power. You should be able to blow 15mph. You feel it of it doesn't hold. In that case, silver solder the entire diaphragm joint.

Tim is correct that you should be able to blow by mouth and find the leak. I seem to recall the average PSI by mouth is about 4. If it doesn't work, then yes compressed air but, it MUST be regulated and not exceeding 30 PSI.
