Just wanted to get this posted up so it would come up in future searches. Like Mark Mel and Alan found with their '78 and '81 #3 Correct Craft trailers, our '79 #4 (under our BFN) is equipped with the following:

Spindle= #84 (1-3/8" inner, 1-1/16" outer)
Inner bearing = L68149
Inner race = L68111
Inner seal = 10-19
Outer bearing = L44649
Outer race = L44610

I will confirm these numbers match my other #3's that range from the early 70's through early 80's (if and when I ever get to working on them), but my guess is that these part numbers will be common across the CC trailers of this vintage that used 3500 lb axles. So, #3, #3-DV, and #4 trailers. They commonly had 14" 5-lug (5x4.5") wheels. I know that the #2 trailers of this vintage used smaller equipment (2000lb axles with 1" inner and outer bearings), so dont use the above part numbers for those.

Tim, are those odd sizes? Do you think it's possible to find a new hub with bearings that would fit the axle?

I brought the hubs to NAPA to have the bearings replaced and their part number for the bearings were BR4 and BR6. The seals were 16667. He didnt replace the races.

Bruce, it doesnt appear to be an odd size at all... very common. There just werent that many people who had confirmed the info on here- so figured one more data point would help. Half the things that CC did were oddball (like the trailer springs) so its nice to find they used *some* standard parts!

My guess is probably NO... By '87 Correct Craft was using the 6x5.5" lug pattern on the #3's and #4's... and that lug pattern was used on both 3500 and 5000 lb axles. Not sure which axle CC used, but if its the heavier duty like the later CC/Ramlins, then the spindle is larger (1-3/4" x 1-1/4", I believe). Better pull yours apart and check the part numbers.

I found with our #2, the off the shelf hubs were less expensive to buy than having NAPA install new bearings on the old hubs which turned out to be cracked anyway.

I found it odd that the guy in the machine shop didn't replace the races. I'd like to by new hubs for spares if I could find them, just in case we tow that boat farther than our local boat ramp.

Here are the NAPA part #'s I have for replacement everything for a 88'CC trailer. They should work your trailer as well.


Inner Bearing   25580    Race 25520
Outer Bearing   15123    Race 15245
Oil Seal 47017

Tried to look for a pic, but its a 5x4.5. Tire size is 205/75/14. Someone put auto tires on it and its not pretty. When the weather gets better, going to change out the tires, rims and bearings. Looking to get a set of the bearing buddys. What sucks, going to have to do all this while the boat is on the trailer.

Tried to look for a pic, but its a 5x4.5 and axel size 3500#'s.. Tire size is 205/75/14. Someone put auto tires on it and its not pretty. When the weather gets better, going to change out the tires, rims and bearings. Looking to get a set of the bearing buddys. What sucks, going to have to do all this while the boat is on the trailer.

How sure are you that the trailer is a '87? I believe all 86+ are 6-lug and have 15" wheels, which would lead me to belive yours is a '83-85. Do you have a reason to believe you dont have the original trailer under your '84?

Trailer was bought in 87, probably mfgt in 86. The 84SN2001 did not have a trailer when my father-in-law purchased in 87 from Midwest CC.

Assuming a trailer's VIN is consistent with a car's VIN, then the 10th digit indicates the year. E = 1984.

Morfoot, you have an 87 trailer. 88 they closed off the inside fenders. Remember, we talked about this at Reid's. Also, 88s had brakes standard, which you don't have.

Ive seen a few '86's with closed fenders (Brad's, Svennson's big block)... might not have been a consistent change for a few years. Agree on the brakes though, standard in '88.

This is what I found replacing the bearings on my 87 (boat made in December of 86) DV-4 trailer with 16" by 6 lug wheels. (I stole it from another post about trailer bearings)

If you have Dexter 8-213 hubs with 6 bolts (the numbers are cast into the rear face of the hub between the lugs) like my 87 DV-4 trailer the proper bearings are the;

25580 inner bearing cone
25520 inner Race
67048 outer bearing cone
67010 outer bearing race.

The difference between a 67048/67010 outer used in my trailer and the 15123 cone and the 15245 outer race used in other trailers is the 15245 outer race is 2.441 " in diamer, and the 67010 is 2.328" in diameter. The 8-213 hubs on my trailer have a step inside the hub about an inch back in from the hub face and the larger 15245 race won't fit over that step.

Well now you got me thinking I was going off the trailer title from the BMV. I have the original paperwork when it was purchased and I will see. Also, will snap some pics when I get home tonight. Thanks for looking into this.

HW you're right! I stand corrected.   I forgot about that conversation. Musta been after few 's into it when we had it.

I made the closeouts on mine out of fiberglass as I didn't want a tire blowout to cause boat damage. Good thing I did as it did once. Tore the cover all to pieces and only left a a black mark on the boat.

Well, I think you are correct TRBenj, went through my paperwork and it does not specifically state a trailer date, just a purchase date. Spoke with my wife, she took care of the BMV title, and the BMV needed a date and would not take the 84, so the BMV went with the purchase date on the invoice of 87. No point of arguing, they are always correct Anyhow, below are some pics to review and comment. Thanks again for pointing this out!

Well I pulled them apart and you are correct TRBenj. I have the following parts for my 84 trailer.

Spindle= #84 (1-3/8" inner, 1-1/16" outer)
Inner bearing = L68149
Inner race - L44610
Inner seal = 10-19
Outer bearing = L44649
Outer race = L68111

Now when I was pulling everything apart, I think I may have lost the spindle key or just can not remember if it ever had one. Does the washer slide into the grove spindle and acts like the key? My other side is against the garage wall and unable to inspect. Going tomorrow to purchase complete bearings, tires & rims. Below is a pic. Thanks

The washer under the spindle nut will have a key to fit the spindle keyway and tabs on it's OD to bend onto the nut flats.

So the lock washer will engage the spindle and when bent over the nut flat, it will prevent the nut from loosening!

This is why you check your bearings! Had one bend bearing cage and the races explain themselves below. Yes these were Timken parts, but lasted close to 30 years.

Quick follow up... I replaced the hubs on the '74 #3 I have for sale, and confirmed that it takes the same hubs/bearings as referenced above (L68149/L44649).

Something does not look right there Tim. Your inners and and outers should be the same series.
Inner - Cone L68149 should go with Cup L68111
Outer - Cone L44649 should go with Cup L44610
