Chris, As Gary mentions, I too feel that's part of the trailering package but, the extra paint on the rub rail, that masking tape that's still on the boat plus all the cracking/checking in the deck is free! |

Definitely fast, that motor will get you to the "Danger Zone." With just the driver, that thing will start to chine walk at about 65, with a passenger it will hold off til about 68. Once she starts, the only way out is to lift. If you want to go faster then that, plan on a LOT of practice. Seems to be in really good shape from the pictures (the metalic flake gel is still shiny), too bad the BASS NAUTIQUE stickers are gone. If anyone finds where to source those let me know. |

Did you ever try Vinylapproach.com Steve. I have gotten some for my Shamrock their quality is impressive. Is there anything left of your old ones to copy?

I will give them a call, it looks like they already have the SKI NAUTIQUE font so the Bass Nautique should be easy to mock up! Thanks for the reference!!! |

Steve, when you say "lift" do you mean vertical lift with a jackplate or trimming out the motor further? When I viewed that ad my first impression was "that's too much motor for that hull and transom". |

Yes, but it is REALLY fun!!! Somewhere between 260 and 280 with the mods and tune that is in it right now. It basically gets to 65 mph really quick and then I can't drive it past that. So it is a lot of pedaling trying to make it go faster: WOT-counter the torque, which starts the chine walk, Back out of the throttle/trim down, WOT/Trim up - counter the torque until it chine walks again, REPEAT. Sometimes, I get the torque counter steer just right and the motor comes alive and the boat just takes off as you hold it right on the end of the pad or I don't know at that point it might be running on nothing but the motor cavitation plate, at any rate it REALLY Screams. Those instances are rare but the goal of how to drive it. |

Steve, one solution to try is removing the #3 spark plug wire, that might cure the torque steer chine walking .
That sounds downright scary to me. I've watched enough Hydrostream videos to make me not want to try to balance on that tiny pad for very long. My jet boat is pretty tame, 60 mph boat, but what I really like is pedal to the floor it rides as smooth and predictable as can be. Worst that happens is you launch off a wave, which isn't good in a jet boat but is easy to handle. No surprise hull events. |

Interesting that you mention the Hydrostream - I have more then one person take a look at the bottom of the hull and immediately say "They stole that hull from a hydrostream" and that is exactly how it drives - just like all those videos you see - HA!
It has also been suggested I try running a small blade chopper which apparently not as "Torquey" So if you know of a Small Ear Chopper 22P that someone wants to give away - send them my way. If I was really serious about going fast, I would switch to a tunnel hull. It is like riding with training wheels, really don't have to worry til you get over 100mph where "Blow-over" becomes the issue... |

Dont see them much any more, but I remember seeing little Hydrostreams on the river I used to ski on in Houston. They always looked squirrelly to me. My little baja ran about 55 and didnt roll around like that, at all.

There was one out on the cove the other weekend. 1. I thought he was going to flip it, 2. It sounded like a monsterous mosquito. Couldn't wait for it to leave. The checkmate with the thru hull exhaust on the other hand, he could stay as long as he wanted. |

Yeah you probably wouldn't like "The Bass" then, To me, it's as beautiful as a straight pipe on a Y-Block, different but just as beautiful... |

Hard to believe Hydrostream went under, they made some of the best lake and river go fast boats back in the 70's and 80's. This is a video of my old boat from 2009 (I sold it in 98) on the lake in my town. Its a 17'-9" 79 Viking (before they were sued and changed the name to V-King) with a 235HP Johnson. Subsequent owner shifted it to center steering and put the numbers on the side and added a setback plate to it. Still went like a Rocket. 92mph was the best it ever ran. I owned that from about 81 to 98 and only lost to one guy with a 17' Hydrostream Vector with a 225 merc and a racing lower unit on it.
Used to ski off it, it would drag you 100 yards on a single ski trying to bring the nose down to get up on a plane. but made almost no wake at all at 35-36 mph (or more). My Old Hydrostream |

Not too many of you can use this but if you do this one seems pretty decent especially if it goes for the 10.00 starting price. Looks like the wrong instructions though,it is a speedo not a tach.

Sn2001 hour meters. Almost drop in replacement *****Chrome surround.******
Sellers has more than 10. https://m.ebay.com/itm/2-Round-Quartz-Hour-Meter-/222534191317 Just recieved mine for $15, I ran into rusted mounts on my broken meter. "393" at 12:00 on gauge face. Blue line too. I'm hoping I can pull the guts and keep the faded black matte surround. Maybe I can repair the old counter and rig it to run backwards UPDATE: I was hoping these were not sealed. It appears the bezel is pressed over the plastic shell. I'll have to destroy one to figure out how the guts can be swapped. Starting to think the chrome bezel might look great mounted to the engine.... |

I'll bet there are not many of brand new Ford 351 marine engines around. By the picture of the valley they look to be roller blocks too. Ebay link

1965 Gen 1 Ski Nautique A few departures from original, but it appears the bones are still good. Need to get rid of the god-awful bottom paint for starters, hopefully the whole thing wasn't painted. I suspect the original engine is long gone. I think the Front seat is something other then what came with the boat. Everything else seems to be intact for a center deck Gen 1.
