I pulled the prop off my Mustang today and it's the smallest inboard prop I've ever seen. It's a Federal 12x8 cupped. It was originally a 12x10, but has been restamped.

Wondering what anyone else is running on their 6's?

Bruce, You've got me beat on my Atom. It's a 11 X 12.

I'd have to say that the cup was added and the pitch reduced on the original. Very common when everyone was finding out the benefits of cupping.

Bruce,
My 64 six banger had a 12-12 on it when I got her.. I tried a 12-13 I already had and liked it.. lost a little hole shot (like it really matters ).

My wife could even tell "something had changed" at cruise speed.

Steve, if you've ever opened it up, what rpms do you get with each prop? I've read that engine will go 4400, which seems high to me.

I've had my 63 American Skier out for the second time. Overall I'm very pleased with the performance of the 100 hp six. I was also wondering about the prop, the max rpm is about 3300. The top end straight line performance is good but it seems to bog down and slow in tight turns and at idle 600 rpm the boat still creates a wake. I looked at the prop for pitch and diameter but all I can find are a series of other numbers, 188L, 74467, 7811, 550 and 335. Just wondering if I should change props for better overall performance.

Thanks

Ed, A prop shop will be able to match the prop against their pitch blocks to tell what it is. Are you sure it's the prop? The engine is ok? Tuned?

The engine runs great, I gave it a complete tune over the winter plugs, wires, cap rotor coil and carb rebuild. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take the prop in and have it measured.
