I’m looking to get a backup prop for my 83 SN2001, and though I’d love to get a ACME 540 or 542, I have to settle for something that’s used and less than $100. I’m looking at a prop right now and it’s a 13 X 12--3 blade prop (Federal) and about $90. The one my boat comes with is a 13 X 13--3 blade, but I’m wondering how the Federal 3 blade would work with a 12 pitch. I know the ACME 540 is 12 pitch and the 542 is 11.5 and the lower pitch is supposed to give it a better hole shot. But is that true of just a standard 3 blade as well? I use the boat for wakeboarding exclusively, so top speed isn’t an issue, but more torque on the lower end would certainly be good. Is the 12 pitch something that would work with my boat, or should I try to find a standard 13 pitch prop? Thanks in advance for any advice. I sure appreciate it. Dan

Datim, Go for the 13X12. It will give you about the same results as the 542. The 542 (11.5 pitch) due to it's blade surface and higher efficiency has less slip and is made to replace the 12".

I know you are boarding but if you do go for a WOT, check the RPM's.

You should be just fine we've been running a Federal 13x12 on our 88 for years, boarding skiing and footing.

I run a Michigan 13x12 and it has plenty of power on my 80'. I got like 4800rpm WOT.
