I am new here and am really impressed with this site and the response to my questions I have another question that I have pursued in the forums but have not found the answer. My boat has the 289 Intercepter and I think a Velvet Drive but am not sure. The dip stick says to use type "A" fluid but this does not seem to be available. Can I use early type Mercon/ Dexron? Thanks in advance for any info. John.

John, The Dextron/Mercon is perfect. The trans would be a B/W Velvet.

How's it going with getting us some pictures of the boat?

I still use type A in mine. I get it at NAPA, they still carry it, same stuff Farmall tractors use.

Tim, seeing they use these borgs in tractors but in different configurations, tractor oil is fine and dandy lol
Im rebuilding one as we speak, it is a borg warner F/R with a 4 speed bolted to the back of it with a Borg And Beck torgue converter in front of it.....people often ask why boats dont use a converter....its because the prop allows the slip and you dont have solid tires on solid ground. the borg marine trans evolved from this trans, just a little history

I really appreciate the info. Will try to get some photos of the old girl. She is kind of rough but I'm looking forward to making positive changes. May fire her up in the driveway today.John.
