Where in the back is the best place to mount the transducer for a depth finder?

When you get one, the instructions should help you with placement. If its a transom mount, you will have to mount it on the opposite side of the prop rotation (I think the port side for you).

If its a thru hull type transducer then I would suggest that you mount it Just aft of the drain hole as that is where you'll have less water turbulence and accurate readings. I mounted mine there about 3 years ago and have not had a single problem.

Like Morfoot suggests, just aft of the drain hole and to one side or the other. However, you need to test the location as air bubbles in the fiberglass laminate can interfer with proper readings. So, before you permanently glue the thing in place, test the location. Some do the test by placing the transducer in a baggy full of water then placing on the hull and weighted down with a plastic bag full of sand to keep it in place...or something like that. The instructions might help out with testing ideas.

Dave, That's pretty good idea for testing. the instructions that came with mine said to fill the boat with water to just above the transducer, then test. I'll give your method a try first. Thanks
