I was wondering if anyone else keeps a notebook for parts records. I do this so I know exactly what belt I used or distributor cap etc. fits.

Nope.
Any parts I use (filters, plugs, impellar, etc) I keep on my computer. I use to keep a file years ago but I've found parts get superceded, or the vehicle or boat gets sold. In the end it winds up as a binder on my shelf taking up space that I never look at.

What a great idea. You can keep the notebook on the shelf next to the family album.

It wouldn't hurt to write the date of purchase and the price right on the box top.

Is there somewhere in Battle Creek, Michigan where we can send those box tops
for free stuff? (I have a lot of box tops.)

My boat came with the 3 ring binder from CC. Owners manual, engine/boat/trailer info and a page to record maintenance. I keep a record of all maintenance... oil changes, plug change, cable change, impellers... date of service, hours on motor at changes...
This type of info will be valuable as long as you own the boat and to its next owner too.

J_I_H: WE are dating our selves. I too remember saving those box tops to send off to Battle Creek. Always wondered what kind of place must have all those neat toys and action figures. And they would just send ya stuff because you sent them some old box tops! Remember the anticipation? Do kids have that kind of fun anymore? Everything is RIGHT NOW!

PS: Tim I think its a great idea. But then again I might be accused of being old fashioned. I bet lots of guys here have all that at their finger tips on the compu.

I keep a file with all paperwork for both boats as well as the dates, boat hours, and invoices. Its very handy to see how long something lasts. It will be a while before I computerize it. Im still learning how to turn one on and off..

Yeh jbear, the fun is in the anticipation. That still holds true.

I like the idea of the binder, Right now I keep all my paper work loose in a folder. the one thing I never do is add up all my invoices to see what I've spent on the boat. That would make me think twice about buying something new and ruin all the fun. I consider playing with and working on my boat sanity therapy so when I have a bad week at work I go on the internet and buy something for it. It works for me.
