Hello. I just joined this site, but I have read previous topics and I admire everyone's level of knowledge and appreciate their willingness to help. My question shows my limited knowledge about some pretty basic stuff. I need to know what type of wire connector is needed to connect to my Chrysler engine's temperature sender. I have seen new gauge sets with a screw stud and washer/nut setup, buy mine looks more like a flared nipple. It sort of looks like a trumpet at the end. Also it looks like it was painted over so I assume I am going to have to scrape the paint off at least the end. From the Chrysler manual on this site it almost looks like the female side of a spade connector is used, but the picture is fuzzy. Any help is greatly appreciated.

James, I think you are correct that the female end of a .250" quick connect Sta-Kon will go on the sender at a right angle. It's been a while so it's hard to remember. If it's not the 1/4" then it may be the smaller .187"

Thanks! That's what I gathered from the picture in the manual, but when I try to zoom in it looks like a blob. Should I try and tape/fasten this somehow or just let friction do its thing?

James, I think the connection was actually a special that Chrysler came up with. It would have had it's own little rubber boot. I think I would just see how friction would hold the quick connect on and not even worry about covering it. Some tweeking with a pliers may be required.
Are you missing the original wiring harness? |

No wiring harness. In fact that is going to be my biggest next challenge. Only the Speedo, volt meter and oil pressure gauges work. No wires going to fuel sender, temp sender or tach. In fact, I'm not really sure where the tach sender is. No anchor light wiring either. I'm focusing on the temp gauge right now as I was helping a friend with a boat at a marina and a couple mechanics mentioned that the temp gauge is the only one they really pay attention to. Thanks for your help. I am going to go with the spade connector and crimp as needed. Cool boats by the way! That Atom Skier must turn some heads and I know the work that must have gone into restoring that wood boat. I looked long and hard at a couple wood Resorters. That trailer is the best.

James, No sender on the tach. It's just a connection to the distributor. I think I spotted a wiring diagram in the Chrysler manual in or ref. section but basicly they are all the same anyway.
Have I missed something or have you mentioned what boat this is in? Is it the 318? Edit: Sorry, I found it! It's a 340. |
