Wake24K - Nice first boat. You did a lot better than most of the rest of us

Quinner, I've read about you insurance scammers who slam on the brakes in front some poor unsuspecting motorist. BKH

Reid ya goon, figured you would take the bait as you are the master at bait!

I definitely need a recording of some monster loud exhaust for my IPod so we can scream that out the speakers! Perhaps when Benji pulls his out he could stick a microphone in one of those rear exhaust holes he has got.

Quinner,
It was the strongest sounding because you probably never got the opportunity to hear the other non-Ford powered boats run, as they were always in the shop. The strongest sounding thing on your current boat is of course the stereo. Maybe I should send you a sound clip of my engine running to stick in your 330 HP cd player so you can at least convince the guys that your engine actally runs. (sorry it took this long to get the intended rise out of me)

ill play.

First boat purchased Dec 6, 2006.
86 Ski Nautique 2001 purchased for $5600 and got the best deal of my life. PCM 454ci, transformed from a typical ski nautique into a modern wakeboarding machine equipped with a 1500lb ballast system, monster tower, acme 540, ipod hook up, pioneer stereo, polk speakers, polk subwoofer, dual battery, and lastly a heated drivers seat...still need to install that.

As JBear said. Now that was lucky day.
When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

Thanks JBear! Here is a crazy story about the 77', while on Glen Lake in Michigan my buddy ran the boat up on a rock/sand bar while I was skiing, luckily late on Sunday, bent the crap out of the prop and shaft, on the way home we are on I-80 and hit a slow down, the guy behind me rear ends the boat, knocked the rudder off, bent up the ladder a bit and maybe bent the bent prop and shaft, well his insurance paid to fix all that anyway as well as a new teak deck cause they couldn't get replacement parts for the ladder. Somebody was looking out for me that day!

Here is the first one that I owned, 77' Ski Nautique with an original bat trailer. Bought it around 1988, boat of course was 11 I would have been 24. Purchased from the original owner in Dekalb, IL for $5,500.00, boat had around 250hrs on it, IIRC the owner told me I paid more or very close to what it cost him new and wouldn't you know when I sold it was for more than I had paid by about $1k. Over the next six or seven years replaced the interior and repainted the lettering. This was definitely the strongest sounding of all my CC's despite the fact it had a Ford in it. 4 more Correct Crafts have since followed.

Color of the trees tells me that was the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. The boat had been sitting there since about Labor Day and the lake had dropped. It probably sat there until we got someone with a trailer to help us move it.

We paid $100 for that boat and ran the heck out it for 2 years. We sold it to a guy for $100 and thought he paid way too much. Man, did our jaws drop the next year when he brought it up, all restored. It was a cool boat. It has a classic old inboard windshield on it.

Bird hunting is definatly not cheaper. It may seem it, but when you add it all up, no way.

Boat doc, it's hard to explain the thrill of watching a good pointing dog to those that don't understand. I hunt some grouse and woodcock, but mostly pen raised pheasants. Some people tell me it's like shooting fish in a barrel. I went to 2 different sites this past Monday where we released 80 birds between the two on Sunday. We saw 5 birds in all, two which we didn't shoot at because the dogs didn't point them.

Riley, was the change to "Bird Hunting" any cheaper? When looking in the gun safe, I sometimes wonder?
Vet bills,gun receipts,hunting licences,beeper collars,ammo and buying and training a new dog.
I think the boating is a better bang for the buck, but what do I know......

I found these pics of two boats me and a buddy owned about 1973. The 1st is a 15' outboard that I think was a Reynolds. It was molded plywood. It has a 1954 Johnson 25 hp. This was a fun boat.

The next is a real race boat, a C hydro. It was a Marchede hydro with a Mark 30 racing engine. This boat went close to 70 mph. It was a really nice set up, but we were terribly underfunded and sold everything after blowwing 2 powerheads in the first summer. This boat would be worth some bucks now.

gave the boat and vette up for a new house and a wife. The jury is still out on how I did on the trade. Just kidding, happily married, always wanted a BFN so I went and found one. I wasn't really using the sport so much anyway. Was working alot of over time at that point an couldn't see letting a $60K boat sit in the garage. So I sold it and the vette paid for the wedding in cash, big downpayment on the house and had money to buy the BFN 3 months later. Everyone wins.

Now I have to wait to find another python motor. I know there is one in the for sale section. But it's not the right time to buy one again. Need a bigger garage first.

That was a pretty nice ride 87. Why'd you give it up for an older boat that needed a new floorBKH

CC, your first (Port Carling Seabird I believe you said) may be the nicest and rarest we've seen so far. Kind of funny to see that high pole on the Chris Craft. Thanks for posting. BKH

I wish I had pics...maybe find 'em some day.
First boat was a Crosby, I think 16' with a 75 Johnson. Was rated for a max of 60. Would pull two skiers but they had to be 100# or less. Learned to ski on that boat. Thought it was the coolest boat on the lake.

Lot of new folks joining lateley, and still some long time lurkers who haven't posted pics of their first boats. Would be great to see some more. I'd like to see the wooden Chris Craft that David F has written about. There's a number of you like me over 40, I'm sure you've got some great black and whites out there of the boat you grew up with.
