I've got a 3 year old ARCO alternator (Model #60050) in my 1994 Ski Nautique with Pro Boss engine.

The voltmeter shows 14-15V when the engine is running. I thought that the gauge might be bad (20 years old), so I put in a new voltmeter. Same. 14-15V wen engine is running.

Is that too much?

Rob,
The 15 is on the high end but 14 would be normal especially if the battery needs charging. What kind of battery do you have? Hopefully it's NOT a deep cycle!. I do suggest you go and purchase a $18.00 VOM BEFORE and test first before just replacing a gauge thinking it's bad.

Battery = Optima (non deep cycle)
VOM Test First = You are correct. I should have purchased a tester...but I spent $35 on a new voltmeter, betting that the 20 year old gauge is bad.

14.5v is normal above idle, but I would recommend a load test on the battery especially if it is the original (1994).

The newer style Mando alternator usually outputs around 14.5 the older style Motorola always outputs around 13.5
