Lack luster bilge followed up by lots of unoriginal parts. I wonder where else this hobbyist cut corners...

Can't wait to see it revving and rocking while floating like BuffaloBFN's boat does. A healthy engine in a dry BFN hull is a wicked combination.

Is this thread really a year old? Yikes.

I would have thought this thread should be long over by now, but I guess my projects never go quite according to plan!

Tim keeps changing the subject but I'll field his comments so we can move on with the thread, though we've got plenty of time.

Where? I'll bet it'd fit real nice, and would be a safety upgrade. You're barking up a tall tree busting on installing unoriginal platforms.

I haven't even thought about removing the originals that are still on. My goal is to win the 80s class at the tenth anniversary of Green Lake. By the time this BFN is done it can pull the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs on a wicked triple tube sesh.

Eric,
I was weaned on stainless at the lathe and mill. My previous job was for a company that made custom food processing equipment.

Since you've had a problem chucking up or rather loosing thin walled tube from the chuck, let me tell you the method I always use. Cut a hardwood plug for a tight fit into the ID of the tube and pound it in!!

I took Tims tips to work with me this morning. To avoid having to remove the inch on the lathe, the plan was to use the Porta-band. Well, someone walked with it!!!! They really didn't fit very well in the horizontal bandsaw and the vertical had a broken blade. I didn't feel like welding up a new blade so they came home with me. I went to work on them with the Saws-all and now 7/8" is gone. They'll get chucked up in the lathe tomorrow.

Tim,
They will go out in the mail on Tuesday. They are done but I'm waiting for something else to go with them in the box.

I feel you'll be very happy. Yes, I buffed the cut edge as well as other work.

BTW, since you weren't able to make it to GL this year, I never got a chance to buy you that beer I owed you. Are we even?

OK Eric if you say so!! Tim, make sure you make it to GL this next summer!

BTW, That company that makes those tips needs to have a qualified welder on the TIG. The flange is fused (no filler) to the tube which is fine if the joint is a tight fit and the proper heat is used. They used so much heat that they had some big time grapes on the inside. Besides the cosmetic not looking great, the grapes and the area close to the weld will rust - no shielding gas when the stainless was molten (or clos to - it oxidizes!)

Joel,
The polishing I did to the ID was going to be a surprise but since you asked.......

The tips as purchased, had the "raw" unfinshed ID. IE: 2B mill stainless (cold rolled) and the weld seam plus the grapes from the welding.

I was able to knock off the grapes with the #4 scratch finish but there's nothing you can do with the cavities

The other tip wasn't as bad.

One more

Tim,
I forgot to mention, yes, the length looks great!! It's very proprotional and will look appropriate. It won't look like it's on the tail end of one of Jody's off shore's!!

I think you should have the first ever CCF wedding! It would be one of the best weddings on record!

I'm not so sure Buffalo BFN & Boat Dr haven't already claimed this title.

Their weddings were well covered here, as I remember!
