Mark, I'm sure there is lots of profession instruction avialable to you, but see if you can track down Oscar "Foot" Mann. He's somewhere down under, and posts frequently on the ABC forums (LakeBoy and GlassSeeker post there too). Been everywhere, done everything. He is "The Man".

Our water temps got below 20C last weekend and are already down to 17C looks like the end of the season for us.

Never got to barefoot this year came close but it is hard with a driver who has just got his licence and me trying to learn at the same time.

Next year will go to a barefoot school early in the season and get started. Boom extension arrived the other day from BI that side spray on the 2001 is distracting.

I get ya on Wally. He's waiting. He doesn't show up at the ski club, but the rotation can get long mid-summer. I try to get all the footing possible, especially April/May and Sept/Oct. This winter was not the best for footers here in CA. Lots of rain, bad weather. There were a few nice days, but missed a lot of them due to obligations, or nobody to go with. Andy (GlassSeeker) went back to school out of the area so I lost my main bro to ski with. Now the club's open my wife can drive and I can get a few fair weather skiers on the water.

Ice out was 6 weeks ago but been busy. I have been skiing for 3 weeks now - all drysuit. Been back and forth with what to wear under it based on the air, we've had upper 70s down to high 40s. I'm treating the seals and putting it away for May though, no matter what the weather. My OS System neck doesn't bother me at all anymore, when it was brand new it definitely made me a little light headed so I used to roll it over a vinyl ring to releave the pressure while not skiing.

Gotta get that glass before all the Wally's come out of hibernation!

You been in the water yet Hollywood?

Last weekend I wore the long wetsuit under my barefoot suit and froze my butt off. My second set I put on the drysuit. I wore the drysuit all winter, but thought it was April and time to hang up the drysuit. I like the flexibility of the drysuit, but hate the neck: it is a choker and clamps on my jugular vein.

Thanks for the bump on the thread. I was terrified looking at Kapla's @SS sticking out of the ripped suit on page one. I hope he did finally trade that one in!

Going out Fri/Sat out to the ski club for a couple of sets. Water is cold there right now as the lake is High Sierra snow melt, temp = 54 deg. The delta water is mid to high 60's right now.   Air temp has been unseasonably low here in the Golden state. Normally 80's by now; it has been 60-70 deg. Soon it will be 100 deg. in Sacramento so I am actually enjoying it.

Figured I'd bump this thread too, can't have enough footing threads on top.

Those NorthEast guys are super humble and don't like to show off their footing, so I'll post 'em up for them again.

Ken shaved his head. The water is cold. There's a million jokes you can make about him riding the pole like that.

Here Tim is dialing in his one-footer.

I would stay away from the used one. The intensity looks good at 100 bucks. I am pretty loyal to my Barefoot International suit. A new one will cost you 300.00 but worth it. Check EBay.com from time to time they have used suits that go for about 100.00.

That shot will live on just like Kristof's bathtub encounter.

Looks like some of our international members are not afraid of nudity.

Kapla any chance of getting some of you previous picture subjects in that suit out on the boom.

I have been "out of the bag" for about a month now but if the sun is not shining it still feels chilly, tight wetsuit and a heater top and away we go. The 88s just went in last week. quinner just put his Bling Bling Air Nautique in on Saturday.

Keep doing shortline back starts until they become easy and you're getting bored waiting for speed! The worse the driving and water conditions the better you'll get. I only tried the LL once a year the past 2 years, so this season being my first try and 3 overall set I finally got it. Not doing much besides riding away a hundred yards right behind the boat but it's pretty exciting nonetheless.

Hollywood: You are a good sport. I was actually "wisecracking" about the ice in the Northern climes. I have nowhere to crack, really. My ski lake was 54 degrees over the weekend, because the upstream reservoir dumps icy alpine snowmelt right from the bottom, so it is cold til end of June.

Still working on the backdeep. Discouraged, right now.

The ice is long gone, over 2 months ago. I have been footing since Good Friday. It is still a bit cold so the boat crews are small and fingers are numb so not much camera. The only thing new for me so far is a back deep long line start.

Memorial Day Weekend at the ski club was a great time. We cranked out at least 3 sets a day with good conditions. GlassSeeker came out and wow'd the substantial crowd, but sorry, no video. You will have to settle for me and my 12 year old daughter running the camera:

Memorial Day FootFest

Any you guys out there footing? Even the mid-west and eastern ice floes should have busted up by now!??

Like the guys said, a boom makes life easier. I use it for all kinds of teaching. it has more than paid for itself. I see them used a lot, especially on Craig's List, but they are more like 250-300 bucks.

I do not recommend building one yourself. Saftey is huge on my boat and you can get jacked up easily on unsafe equipment. Heck, you can get jacked up on "safe" equipment. I am sure Phatsat67 is going to do a fine job, and I would love to see pictures.

The way I see it, I spent 10's of thousands on my boat, 500 bucks it not unreasonable for something I use EVERY time I am out like a boom Think of how much people pour into towers, stereos and boards and skis.

Good Luck!

BTW: I ripped a huge set at our ski club on Saturday. Temps in the high 80's, NO WIND, and nobody on the lake all day. Only bummer was no photographer.

Footin' is where it is at!
