I won't state my opinion as to who should be president, or whether abortion should or should not be legal.

But, I will say that of all the Constitutional opininions I have read, and I have read a lot of them, Roe v. Wade is one of the weakest I have read in terms of Constitutional support for the opinion handed down. It is a creative piece of lawyering and judicial opinion, but it is a real stretch to find constitutional support for the decision.

It is an opinion handed down about a very controversial topic in this country; it is an opinion in which the Supreme Court "reached" at best for a constitutional argument to support its opinion; and that is why it continues to be debated 35 years after that decision.

In 1896, Plessy v. Ferguson declared that separate but equal school systems were supported by the Consitution. It was not until 1954 that Brown v. Board of education overturned that ruling.

Similarly, it would not suprise me at all if some day Roe v. Wade is overturned on grounds that it is not supported by the constitution. That is not to say that abortion could not be legal in this country. It is only to say that given the right mix in the Supreme Court, and the right case put before the Court, the decision could easily be overturned.

I don't believe we need gun control and fire arms for sport and or protection are a right but is there not a little room for control when an 8 year old is allowed to fire an UZI sub machine gun at a gun fair resulting in his death. I just don't understand how this is possible.

You can't control or legislate common sense. I don't understand how it happened either. If the father was stupid enough to let his kid fire the gun, the owner of it should have known better.

Ken,

Thanks for fighting for my freedom, just like the guy I am voting for!

Joel,

Perhaps terrorists were responsible for the loss of some rights not Bush directly? Many of those changes were more a result of maintaining national security IMHO.

Living in a fantasy world, under the impression that the government will defend his home so he has no need....I rest my case, lost cause. And to think, I fought in a war to allow these types of thinkers to give away their rights which I fought to defend, go figure. I don't know one person that has been affected by Bush's actions on privacy rights.
I have never seen one example of what Bush has done to ruin the enviorment.

We've got bigger fish to fry in this country and in the world right now. Personally I'm pro-gun as it's the final check of power between the people and gov't. If shooting is your hobby, that's great. I think it's way cool to hear opinions from around the country, and even overseas, that's in a format where things are simple and staight. Hopefully we don't go too far and get closed!   LOL

I think 1 thing we all agree on is that some things need to change. For starters, I'd say hold politicians to the same standards we are from their health care plans to illegal activity.

Another thing that bugs me is special interest persuasion both in voting AND who we get to choose from in the first place. I was for Huckabee, but I think he was too honest for upper level politics. The machines in place wouldn't stand with him maybe because he wasn't so 'flexible'?

Personally, I'm already challenged enough....I moved off the boat I lived on for 15 years and now I live in a very small house with a living room/bedroom combo, power my lighting and computer by wind and solar power, drive older cars, stopped drinking and smoking long ago, park my cars and boats on the lawn and add no chemicals to keep it growing, heat with wood, and drive as little as possible, watch very little TV (the news is so slanted as to be totally useless)...all so that I can enjoy skiing and hunting. The last thing I need is a TOTALLY anti-gun a**h**e who thinks the Constitution of the United States is poorly written (look up this info),who would prefer to limit or end my basic rights as this is all that remains for me after fifty years of hard work and I have every intention of fighting this crap however legally possible. You may do your part to bring down the Constitution, I'll have no part of it, 'nuff said.... now I'll go take my blood pressure medicine and do something useful, head to the river...oops! it's pouring down rain....never mind maybe tomorrow.

Yep. We'll be challenged on wasting energy and ruining the environment. We might be asked to contribute a little bit to control energy and worry about the world we live in rather than sitting on our butts watching prime-time TV in over-sized homes, voting for "Idol", dousing our lawns with chemicals, and putting down a 12-pack of Busch Light every night. We might have to learn to "live within our means". We might have to learn that we are not "owed" anything on this earth just because we were born here. A loss of entitlement is just what this country needs on an individual basis IMO.

I can hardly wait to see your tech article on outfitting your Nautique with a sail, or maybe even a little 6 banger like some of our more enviorment conscience members already have.

What scares the heck out of me is that Obama is endorsed by the press and has not had the normal background research or been hammered on about what he has said/done in the past or his current positions.

No matter how much common sense you apply, there are those who have been been already convinced by an eloquent con job...I'll never say "I told you so" again, but I'll say it in advance. Once again, the economy is the smallest of our worries if we elect a socialist/pacifist to run the country with a congress that has similar beliefs...our basic way of life will be challenged and the judges he'll appoint will back up anything they do. As far as the economy goes, don't forget that when the "rich" are overtaxed to give to the poor, none of us will be able to afford a new Nautique once the increases are passed on to us.

what goes through my mind a thousand times is red nose bush's arm around McCain's shoulder(the commercial we constantly see) and Bush telling him "business as usual"

everything has doubled in the last 5 years except for the paychecks and that bit right into the bottem line. its been about 8 or so years since i skipped paychecks and i have skipped a few recently. and i call it the trickle down effect cause now I'll have to call my mortgage company and tell them my payment is going to be late. there is no such thing as a savings account anymore...thats gone... equity in your house??? ha ha, try to get a second mortgage
anything has got to be better than what it is now,
these guy's in office and the majority of the party were born with a silver spoon in thier mouths and dont know what its like to know where thier next meal is coming from and thats the difference, they dont give 2 ***************s about me and you.

Eric just stated he grossed out at $463k so lets not throw him in that category, My bet is he's the last guy to cash his paycheck. Average business would die to be making 10% so that means a business would have to gross out a 2.5 mil and your no longer a small business at that point. Besides, if you're making that kind of money you'll just hire an accountant to help you hide it anyway. I've had a few good years in the past and there are ways to get around just about anything.

Eric, I've been in business since 1998 and this by far has been the toughest run I've ever had. I've survived the tech crash, the last recesion, the trade center bombings, the housing flop and I'll survive this recesion/depresion too but as bad as all those previous events are the next one just gets harder. Something has to change.
