Ha. We've had a black bear poking around for the past two summers. Not a welcome guest. Recently tipped over a rolling dumpster on a nearby property. People need to stop leaving trash outside.

We house boated on Lake Shasta and each night we would tie up on shore in some nice cove. Great Vacation for a family that likes to ski. One night we heard noises and a Bear was coming on board the houseboat. A lot of Pan banging ran him off but sure was an adrenalin rush! Nice looking Bear, bad place to hang out.

Ha ha bear being the key word.
Got to love the species that were there before we were, it is their property before we decided it was ours. |

wish I knew how to post pictures from my phone... Rick the Gator guy pulled a 6 footer out from under our dock this evening. Already dead from being trapped since this morning. Actually not the one we were going for...a much larger one has been lurking close by since May. john |

Guys who ski with Gators and Sharks are a tough group. I'm not one to need to ski that bad.
There is lots of water without things that can eat you. Hope you catch the big one soon before it has babies. |

When I lived in Houston, we would often ski on the Trinity River near the northwest end of Lake Livingston. We saw many alligators sunning along the river bank. My wife would go into hysterics if she saw a gator when someone was in the water. My experience is that the engine noise would chase most of the gators away. We did have one close call with an unusually curious big-boy that came over to investigate a skier. I carry a .44 magnum in the glove box as my gator deterrent. I never had to use it in defence of our boat or crew. Too bad...would have made a great pair of boots. JQ |

My son was in Alaska for 3 years in North Pole. When they went berry picking with the kids both he and his wife went armed. Snowmobiling they carried a .50 Cal pistol. There are many Kodiak/Grizzly and Moose and they don't like the noise of a snowmobile. They say more people in Alaska are killed by Moose than any other predator.
Each place has their own challenges. It must be hard to relax and push your skiing when you don't know if a gator will come in for a snack if you fall. I went in the local Ace hardware with my son in North Pole, they had an incredible gun display in the Ace Hardware. I was looking at the .50 cal pistols and I asked what procedure is to purchase one. The guy says hand me cash I hand you the gun. Definitely different from California. |

Lane told me about a really big GATOR on the North end of Buckeye, he said they don't really bother people. Nonetheless, I always rolled over quick to get the back deep work moving when we were up at that end... |

Steve how long ago were you on our Lake? I see Lane here once in awhile but I dont think he is teaching much anymore. And yes....we have seen a big guy up at the north end for quite a few years. Once the weather warms up we are gonna try for him again. Have not seen him crusin our dock since the weather and water cooled off.

John = I think the last time I was there was with you and Eddie, which was probably 6 years or so ago. Prior to that would have been with Lane maybe a year before that. I think I skied there 3 total times. Love Buckeye! |

I have wondered about skiing in FL with all them gators. I sold some ski's to a guy a year ago. He told me he skiied with some guys in FL a few years back, and one guy got over toward the lilly pads near shore, hit a gator, and fell.
He lived to tell about it, but, the gator got his leg pretty good. He said overall it is pretty safe to ski down there, but, you've got to know the areas to stay away from. Thank god Delavan Lake in Wisconsin doesn't have too many gators. Just lots of ice for 11 months of the year! ![]() |

growing up on a lake in FL loaded with gators , As long as you leave their house alone and definately don't feed them or fall near the nest during mating season. Water moccassin is more worry than gator really. the bite from those anti venom can be 200K + . As long as you know where they hang out and keep an eye out the gators won't bother you. i can only recall a couple times them being aggressive. I shot plenty of them back in the day before political correctness.

Anti venom for a snake bite can cost $200k? Glad I live where there are no poisonous snakes. Can't imagine sharing water with poisonous snakes or gators, although I really like White Lake in NC and have been told they sometimes show up there.

I’ve literally skied over a gator twice. Like fin hit him like a speed bump. Both times I seen them and figured surely they’d drop down like most but not those two times. Damn dirt bag fishermen are more of a danger. Wish we could have open season on those scum bags.

Bermuda is safe, also. Gary, we have a bad tick problem here as well. Started about 15 years ago along the southeast coast, but now they're throughout the entire state. Sometimes it's hard to leave the house without picking them up. |

I’ll take that as a compliment but since I’ve been going there since 1959, I think I qualify as an old guy
