Was there a grab handle on a 1977 Nautique above the swim platform? I have 4 screws that are on the rear transom above the swim platform and I am trying to figure out what they were for? They are spaced out perfectly for a handle.

It wasn't intended as a grab handle.
It was meant to keep ski ropes from catching the lift ring.

Sorry, '77 wouldn't have one.

To be more specific the screws are between the correct craft logo and the tournament ski boat logos.

Sounds like previous boarding ladder holes.

This is my 1st nautique so I am not sure of what should be there and what should not. Are there any pictures of a 100% stock 1977 out there somewhere?

Steve.
Pictures would be fantastic but I feel what you are describing are screw holes left over from the the original swim ladder. The reference section is a fantastic tool to look at pictures from what they looked like fro the factory.

You MUST post some pictures of what you have!!!

DrCC - I looked at the pictures. The screw holes are in the same location as the ones on the ladder. Does this mean that a 77 model did not come with a swim platform?

Good question.   Don't remember exactly when platforms started showing up. I was thinking possibly late '77 early '78.

Yes!!!! If you take a look at the reference section, you'll see that the swim platform started in 78. We still want pictures!!! How hacked is the boat?

But, The photos in the brochures were not an exact representation of what was actually being produced.
The '70's being the worst to use as a reference.

I agree and I also should have mentioned taking a look in the diaries too.

I have an original 77' Nautique, and it has a swim platform. I bought the boat from the original owner, he said that he has changed nothing but the carpet, and a few mechanical things. It has been taken pretty good care of, and is in reasonably great shape for its age. Pics coming soon in the profile.

Not given,
I have a platform on my 77 Tique as well and I happen to know it's not original due to the screw holes I gelled from the original ladder. When ever anyone gives me any grief about a non original item on the boat, I just tell them it's a late model 77!!

Fill in your profile with at least your first name if you care to. You haven't been with us for very long so you may have not noticed unlike other sites, many here go by first names rather than screen names.

Yes, we what pictures of your boat!!!

I found this boat in a barn. It was put up around 10 years ago and has not been touched. The hull, emblems and decals are all in great shape. The interior is in good shape to be original. The only major over haul that I will be doing is a new floor. I have a couple of soft spots but nothing major. I did a few tune up parts on the motor but it fired right up and purrs like a kitten.
I think it was an awesome find with less that 400 original hours on the boat. I cannot wait to get it on the water ..This is my 4th inboard and the oldest one I have owned.

I will get some pictures and post them soon..

I need to replace the passenger side vent glass and the rear blower vent. If you have any suggestions on replacing these let me know.

Steve,
I don't want you to be surprised when you open up the floor. Many have!! I feel you'll find it will need a complete stringer job. There's plenty of info here on doing it plus we're always around.

How about some pictures?

BTW, thanks for the first name.

I posted a couple of pictures last night.

We took her out for the madien voyage this past weekend. No leakes and runs great......
I do have to put a new voltage regulator and a new water temp sensor on her. I can live with that considering it has not been in the water ao running in 11+ years.

Hughes 26, and Sweet 77 Great looking boats! I have the same color combo, and it gets looks everywhere we go. I am trying to figure out how to post pics as well, so hopefully tonight you will have them. After I posted that I had an original with a swim deck, I had to go look if I had ladder screw holes, and I don't. I even looked behind the tank to see if they had been filled, but no signs of any. I then pulled out the title, and the hull serial was issued 9/77. The boat only has 684 hours on it, and is in really good shape. Stickers are a little faded, and the interior looks more pink than maroon, but that is it. The older gentleman that I got it from bought it new, and used armorall on the interior after each use.(hence the fading)
On a different note does anyone know what kind of seat would fit in the rear of the boat? I was thinking of making one, since I plan on redoing the interior this winter, but if I could find a pattern it would help. I have seen some great looking ideas here, but I would like it to somewhat represent the original seats. Thanks

I have a '77 also, and I have been wondering about the screw holes in the transom as well. I even meant to take some pictures this past week during my lake vacation. The platform is much easier for putting on a double-boot slalom, but the ladder looks cool. I found a guy with a '79 on the lake (Lake Burton, Ga) and he was willing to let me use his boat to get a transfer of his original graphics to use for mine. That was a HUGE pain, as his boat was hanging about 3 feet off the dock on both sides. Anyway, his had no ladder holes, so Pete's right again. His also had no seat. If you need pictures and dimensions for seats, let me know. I could get those together for you while you are tearing into those rotten stringers!

charger496 - I would like to see the dimensions and pictures of the rear seat you have. I want to add one to mine when the interior is changed this winter.

The aft seat is simply a big block of upholstered foam on the bottom and 2" of foam on the back.
