97 ski nautique, starts fine for a few seconds then the fuel pump buss shuts off the fuel and engine stops.   Do you know what is causing this?  Thanks

Have you checked your kill switch/safety lanyard?

Bad kill switch it'll start and run for a couple seconds.

The lanyard being attached doesn't necessarily mean the switch is working.

I'd jumper across the 2 terminals on the switch and then see if it starts and stays running.

There's other stuff to check, but this is a start Wink

Thanks.  Checked and it's not the kill switch.  Any other thoughts?  Thanks

Next thought or question.

When you go from Off to the Run position with the key, do you hear the fuel pumps come on for a couple of seconds and then shut off?

I'd figure the answer will be Yes, since it actually starts when you go to Start with the key.

Well, the easy stuff got checked, now you're dealing with things like the PIP sensor in the distributor or in the worst case scenario the ECM itself may have a problem.

The PIP sensor, senses that the engine is running and sends a signal to the ECM and the ECM says OK and keeps the power supplied to the fuel pumps so it stays running. No signal = no run.

I'd pull the distributor cap off and see if it looks like there are any broken pieces rattling around..

Since replacing a PIP involves distributor disassembly to do it, most people get a new distributor.

Right about now without having a bunch of diagnostic tools, you're into throwing parts at the problem.

You'll find plenty of threads here on CCF, where lots of parts are thrown at gt40 issues  Confused

You sure the kill switch is OK, you jumpered the terminals on the back to bypass the switch?
