I recently bought a used 1999 air nautique, great condition. Has the GT40 engine and original 4 blade prop. I get tremendous hole shot, which I love, and good top end speed, but my rpm's max out at 4500. I bought the boat in Sacramtento, Ca(sea level), but live in Lake tahoe 6000ft elevation. The rpm max was the same at both elevations, top speed only 2mph different. Engine manual states should be able to get 5000rpm, just wondering why I am leaving some power on the dock?

Welcome to CCF you'll find the info you need here. Your probably not leaving anything at the dock. But check to see what prop you have and condition. Fuel injection is great at higher elevations. How's the tune up ? Top speed? 45mph(ish) |

We need photos!
I've driven a lot of those boats. I've never seen 5K rpm. Usually bout 4600-4700 max. My super air maxes about 4700 RPMs. I can't remember how many mph I lost at Tahoe. I think it was 3 or 4 mph. BKH |

Thanks for the response, had to take a forced hiatus as our server was down, then got caught up elsewhere. My max speed at sea level was about 43-44, 40-41 at Tahoe elevation. Good to hear not leaving anything at the dock and 4500-4700 rpm is about max. Love the boat.
