I sold my Buick Grand National a few weeks ago and now I'm on the hunt for a 2001. I think I found one. I know it needs a floor. I've done a floor in an old i/o, but since this is going to be set up for wakeboarding would it be better to do a fiberglass/foam floor like the original design, or do a wood/foam floor? The main reason I ask is because I've seen boats with problems because of the fat sacks. Is a new sturdy fiberglass floor going to handle this okay?
Also, for those of you that have sprayed gelcoat, is it just a matter of sanding off the old gel and spraying new? I'm possibly looking at a color change but have never sprayed gel. |

Members here have done both wood floor and fiberglass floor replacements on the model 2001 boats with good results.
Spraying gel coat is labor intensive because the gel will orange peel and requires a lot of sanding and hand sanding for that mirror like finish. There are some new gel coats on the market which cut down the amount of orange peeling, but they are very expensive. If you change the color, you should plan to keep the boat for a while. We've seen time and again that if you vary from original, you will actually devalue the boat, and it will be harder to sell. BKH |
