Hey all,
Haven't been around much as I was working on another boat. But I just got my engine back in my 176 and was having a blast driving it again. 54mph at 5400 RPM. Sucker was screaming. I've always had a problem with fuel coming out of the vent when the tank is full or splashing around. I just removed the factory Perko fitting and Installed an Attwood P-trap trye vent. We'll have to see if it makes a difference. Something that had me curious is that after I disconnected the vent hose I blew into it and I could hear air bubbling as if the vent fitting on the tank has a draw straw on it. And this was with 2/3rd of a tank. Shouldn't the vent just vent gasses at on top of the fuel, and not fuel itself. The fitting the vent line is connected to is at the furthest port side of the tank Am I missing something? Thanks, Don

Proper vents are supposed to have some type system to keep liquid out of the vent or to stop the liquid that does splash in from getting out to open air. Some use baffles, some just coil some of the vent line inside the tank so the fuel has to travel up and down through the coils, it keeps liquid from spilling out at the vent.
The system should vent at the very top of the tank and not be submersed in fuel. Sounds like maybe your system has failed inside the tank? Sounds like your engine is cranking out the power. 54 mph is impressive. As I think about this, my 1978 Ski Nautique would spill a little when I had a nearly full tank after a hard turn. I remember turning to the vent side of the boat when I had a choice if my tank was full to avoid spilling. Maybe the old boats were built with a lousy vent system? Somebody on this forum will have good info for you. |

My 1988 - 2001 will dribble a little bit if tank is absolutely full . I just attributed it to expansion from heat with the sun beating down.

I'd imagine that if you tried to suck some gas out of the tank through the vent line, it would tell you something about where the line ends.
You dribblers might need some Depends or something like that  They probably come in Red just for you Jonny.
