Does anyone out there have a recommendation for a good mechanic in the Southeastern Michigan area? We have the engine back in the '68 and most of the connections made but I want to have some one check the plumbing (closed loop) and electrical (marine or auto components?) before we turn it over. I have had it at a mechanics for a while and he just can't get to it this season. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

Found him!

Just got the boat back from Lapeer Boat Service. Tony, the owner, found several problems with the rebuild (done before I purchased the boat) and fixed them, he verified the starter and alternator while possibly original were not marinized. He replaced those got the engine running (sounds very sweet) and aligned the drivetrain. He will do the final carb tuning and timing once the water is softer and we can drop it in the lake. I need to put in a bilge blower, fuel/water seperator and the interior and we will have a "new boat"!

Hi Keith
I'm south of Lapeer about 30 miles (west of Pontiac). I recently purchased an '85 Barefoot Nautique and probably will be looking for a good inboard mechanic. Sounds like you may have found one. Where is he located?
Thanks, Steve

Steve,

Don't forget Silver Spray, I have always heard good reports on them. BUT I would highly recomend Lapeer Boat Service they are about a half mile north of I-69 just off Lake Neppesing Rd.

Keith,
Thanks for the info on Lapeer Boat Service. I'm not that far from Silver Spray and I talked to those guys at the Novi boat show (damn, those new Nautiques are sweet). If I need help, I will ring up Lapeer. Hopefully I won't need them this summer.
Thanks again,
Steve

Tullfooter if you have any mechanical problems with that BFN that can't figure out, send me and email. My dad used to do the mechanical work on the SN and BFN for a friend of ours that ran a marina from his house. They live on the lake, well his wife lives there, my dad's friend past on a little while back.

Thanks 87
I thought I would have time this past weekend to bring the boat home from my shop and get familiar with the engine, but with the great weather, some yard work, dock installation and a round of golf got in the way. But, today my wife started cleaning the garage to make space for the boat to come home this weekend.
I think aliens took over her body.

Hey anytime a man's wife will clean the garage so he bring the boat home is a good day. Don't do anything to stop her because she never offer to do it again.

tullfooter, may have to take you up on you offer if the footing doesn't progress by june. Still looking forward to getting a chance to hang out this summer.
