This is garret he is my nephew and is 19 years old. . I have had a really good year in the SN this year. I have enjoyed the lake and my boat and made a few good memories. Yesterday I took my nephew out with me I was a little reluctant , Garret can be a handful at times he has autisiam and has only been on a boat once before I was unsure how he would react to the boat and water. He soon put my feeling at rest He had a blast swam most of the day and never quit talking. He was very helpful in putting in the boat and really liked the sound of the V-8. I gave him a short lesson and he drove the SN like a pro. Every time he gave the boat throttle he would look at me and smile .Sure was nice to see him enjoy himself and laugh. His dad passed away a few years back and he has struggled at times. Made me appreciate all I have in life. When we left the lake he thanked me and said that this was the best lake day ever. I agree I think it was a great lake day Too!!
RIP.. Tommy Edwards you would be proud! |

A day on lake in a classic inboard is best therapy available!!! Don't tell the big pharmaceutical companies or they will put an end to it! Maybe that is why there are mammoth wake boats pulling tubes everywhere you look
Nice story, nice boat. +1 for elbow on the gunnel! |

Very nice - great job. Take a moment and check out www.abovethewake.com which is run by Tom Hart in Michigan. Abovethewake is a watersports (also have tubes) based organization that's mission is to share time on the water with those with Autism and other challenges in life.
You will always remember this experience. |

Nice story. In a related story, I finally found a GREAT use for a tube. Friend of mine took tow autistic kids tubing last weekend. He tells me they started out quiet and scared. By the end of the ride, they were yelling "full speed ahead." I don't know a lot about autism, but I believe being around the water is very calming, and being treated like everyone else must be great for these kids.

Greg, Thanks for the positive comments. I checked out abovethewake.org it looks to be a very nice organization and I wish it was closer to east Tennessee they seem to have a lot of talented people working with them and sure could do more than I am capable of helping him achieve. I will stick to the little things I can do to make his life a little brighter. To be able to get him on a wakeboard or ski would be an awesome goal. It made me realize all the many things we perfectly able bodied persons take for granted and how just a simple thing makes them feel special.
I challenge everyone on this site to pass it on, any thing to bring a special needs kid a smile. |
