Doubt it will get put back together. No Title and sounds like there has been 3 owners since a title was issued. I am going to attempt to get one but if not I have a spare powerplant for the 83.

I saw that FB post and strongly considered it. That will be a sweet boat when finished.

Not sure what your process is to get a new title, in IA it was pretty easy. Certified Letter to last titled owner. Either returning no delivery or a return letter from said person stating they don't own the boat (not sure what would happen if they claimed to still own the boat, hmmm). Then a quick once over by the Conservation Police to run the Hull ID. A few forms filled out and boom, back in business. I started the process in IL on a seadoo, but eventually sold that project to get it off the property.

It might be a little of a PITA, but really just waiting for things to be returned/looked, pay Uncle Sam and you are g2g.

I drove all the way up there from NC yesterday to look at it, but decided to pass. I agree that it is likely a parts boat. I was hoping for something better.

There are definitely some good parts on that boat -- windshield is great, platform could be saved pretty easily, engine may be worth something, although it is currently locked up, pylon is good, underwater gear looked OK (prop is pretty rough), trailer is not right for the boat, but might be worth something to someone, stringers seemed OK (surprisingly enough) based on the bolts I got a wrench on, but floor was gone, hull was decent, but would need some TLC for sure.

Interesting boat, but it wasn't the project I was looking for for this winter. I agree that we need a thread about what you do with it!! Glad someone here got it!

I did not have a title for my Mustang when I got it but the DNR walked me thru their process and at the time pretty easy. They gave me the phone and address of the previous title owner, called and wrote them as per their instructions. Talked to the owners mother but go no response from him. It was then considered abandoned and I was given the title.

Dear Mr. Starr,

I am so glad to have finally found you. My name is Donald and I currently live in North Carolina. The Blue Mustang that you have at your home is actually my boat. My Mother suffers from dementia and she just now told me that you called about the boat title. I realize I am a little late in getting back with you but I hope you can understand that I did not get the message until now. When I last saw the boat, it was just a little oxidized. It needed a little TLC wax job. I have heard through CCFAN that you have managed to get it to a very nice shine. I sure hope you did not follow that one jack leg's advice and use freaking mop n' glow on my perfect gel coat . I also hope you have not been hammering my Holman Moody Motor. Sorry for the outburst, but I am very upset with my mother's over-site in letting you leave with my prized cherry boat.

What day would be convent for me to come and reclaim my property and I do expect to be compensated financially for the hours that you used the old girl?

Thanks,

Donald from North Carolina.

Not as glad as we are going to be Mr Donald of North Carolina! We have been storing said item in our indoor secure storage facility for 28 years since it had been dumped,I mean brought here after your abandonment. A mechanics lien had been placed on the item basically for keeping it dusted off all those years but will be waved along with the current miscellaneous shop supply fee of 6,155.83,we do not compromise using sub standard supplies. Local marinas charge 21 dollars a foot a month plus an added 3 feet for the trailer tongue for just inside storage without the dusting off service or testing service supplied in the summer months but in your case we will honor the local marinas pricing and wave the testing and dusting fee also. Storage fee's cannot be discounted though since we had to turn away other up front paying customers. 28 years comes to 134,064.00   Due to the nature of our business operation and the fact that we're in Illinois and frankly can get away with it,please bring your title and cash,no checks, credit or debt cards accepted and thanking you in advance for your prompt payment and cooperation, Starr Towing,Impoundment and Storage LLC

Are you sure we are talking about the same boat ? 350 Powered not 454 and motor has near perfect compression ? Spun over easily by hand followed by a battery and a jumper wire 8 times over. If it is the same boat thanks for passing on it as I needed a spare 350 and now I have my new backyard bar !

All that aside it will get parted as it is just to rough to try and bring back.

Is it just me or is that tongue on the trailer a little long? Either way it's a solid tractor!

I was going to check it out next time through Springfield. I thought that prop looked funny but wasn't sure if it was my bad eyes on a tiny phone screen. Any other issues I should look for ?

It's a good price point and if you can lake test it (bring a prop puller and spare prop) I'd look for all the usual suspects and have a compression and leak down test done at a local auto shop or Marina if all else checks out. It needs detailing and some upholstery but if it runs well---lots can be forgiven. .

Look it over and let us know what you find. I'd sure like to have a boat like that out back for skiing. The GT40 is a beast of an engine in that little boat!
