I think lpskier at Ball of Spray swerves on Lake Placid. I know his course is in 30' of water, could make a challenge.

Hey it's JD...funny Tom that you would ask if I was out there...I was looking at Lake Placid area just this week. on the internet and wondering the same thing as tryathlete which lead me to this post. In my extensive travels around central Florida to find lakefront I didn't make it that far South to Lake Placid on my last trip. I am regretting that, but I ran out of time...(the waves and surf were calling me to the coast for a couple of days). I am headed to Florida again in December 16'/January 17' and I have already planned to head to Lake Placid area and Sebring. I will update this post after my trip and let you know what my impressions were.

From what I understand the Lake is crystal clear. Retired? Oh you'll fit in, Only if you buy into a trailer park and put a flamingo in your yard.

Hey Peter,
I have never skied there, but I have been through the town a few times. It seemed to be kind of a mix to me. It seems there is a nice overall feel to it, with an overpowering feeling of remoteness. The town is centered on the lakes, and the development seems to be following some kind of a master plan, and the shopping centers that are modern look very nice. I know that the wildlife there has to be plentiful, because there is so much open area for the critters to roam. If you can get JD to weigh in on this question, he just spent a couple days scouring central Florida for the best deals on waterfront. JD, are you out there?? Tom |

Does anyone here boat on Lake Placid in Florida? What is the water like in terms of clarity? How is the overall depth (I see its 50 feet deep at some point). Does the level stay pretty constant? What about resident wildlife and things ( gators/snakes/ etc)?
Seems like a very affordable place to live and maybe retire. Just looking for feedback. |
