While attempting to set the timing on my 1956 Atom Skier w/ a Gray Marine 70hp/4cyl I blew a fuse. Engine was running smooth up to 2400 rpm then starts to ping. Took her out and while at full throttle attempted to turn distributor cap slighlty, and then she stalled out. DIW, no start after that, checked and found fuse blown to main panel.

John,
Rotate the engine so the point set is open, disconnect the negative wire off the coil and then with the VOM (volt Ohm meter), check to make sure the negative wire isn't grounded. There is a insulating bushing where this negative wire enters the distributor and it may be shorted to ground via the distributor body. What blew the fuse is unknown. |
