Had to remove paint. The color was off so decided to call Tech support and was told paint would not last, plus used wrong primer so starting over

My fault should have checked first...

I've heard the "don't use welding cable" argument off and on, but I know a bunch of people that have used it with no problem, saving some money. I have used battery cable in a few trucks, my runs didn't have any difficult bends in them and just seemed like the thing to do. If I had to snake it through some tight areas in a boat I'd likely go with welding cable, if easy runs I'd use battery. Personal preference, if you use the heavier gauge you'll be all set with either.

Be careful with welding cable. Here's a quote from Battery Cable USA

Any Heavy Duty Truck shop keeps bulk heavy battery cable in stock and can cut to length for you.   By Heavy Duty I mean, Kenworth, Peterbilt or Freightliner not GM Ford or Dodge.
They sell the connectors that bolt to this size cable also.

Didn't see your post before I posted mine. 6 gauge is nuts. I was able to buy some heavy gauge battery cable at an auto supply house, the kind that has truck parts and batteries. I used some 1/0 in a diesel pickup, I'm sure they had 1 gauge as well.

PO had 6 ga and it melted, and the #1 boat has 1 ga but I can only find 2 ga

Quick question on battery cable. Will 2 ga. be ok for a 6-7' positive and 5-6' negative??

How about the original fuel line from the pump to the carb? It's most likely steel with inverted flare ends.

While I'm with Pete that there's no reason to not be using a mechanical fuel pump, you still can do some simple troubleshooting on the electric to see why it was working fine and now isn't working. Is there power to it? Can you feel it running? If so, make sure you have fuel flowing to it, don't have a gummed up anti-siphon valve or bad fuel pickup in the tank. If it isn't running see if you have power to the pump and if not go back in the wiring to find out the problem.
