Not at all - it's what you had to do to find the Doug Fir in your area. I however do feel that your dads high end staircase background rubbed off on you! That's NOT a bad thing and is certainly evident with your skills!! BTW, I've got to stop at my hardwood lumber again for some more White Oak. I screwed up ripping the 4th spray rail I'm making for my X55! I'm making 2 for mine and 2 for Craig (64X55). Ripped the shape to the narrow dimension of the bevel instead of the wide dimension. I got sloppy on the 4th piece and wasn't paying attention! |

Ok,thanks Pete.I'll pick out some nice pieces at the local lumber yard. We have a couple of small scale lumber mills in town and one of them has a kiln and moisture meter.I'll shoot for 8% or so.I suppose the kiln will warp the boards if they are prone to do so. That will help.I can find out before I cut them. |

Got in a good day at the mustang.I had the floor pieces cut out for a couple of weeks but I was busy working on the seats until I ruined my last sheet of plywood. So today was spent fitting the pieces. Here are a couple of pictures of my progress.
![]() ![]() The short secondary stringers are not glassed in yet so the starboard side are not staying where they are in the picture. Now I can coat with smith's penetrating epoxy. Tomorrow I will get another sheet of cdx for the seat bases so I can get all that stuff to the upholstery shop. |

I'm finally getting around to posting some pictures of my progress on the mustang 17.It's not done by any means but I did get her in the water for some fun before it get too cold. ![]() ![]() ![]() I had the back of the hull on wheel dollies and the front was on the engine hoist. I was able to get it out of my workshop by myself. I then took the wheels off of the trailer so it was low enough to slide it under the boat.Back on the trailer after all this time.. |

Everything went together pretty well considering how long it was apart. All the wires went on pretty well except for one yellow wire coming out of the harness with a blade connector that doesn't seem to fit anywhere. The tag was half gone and all I had was the last three letters "ing" .It doesn't reach much past the motor to the front and nothing to the back It's the wire laying on the port side exhaust. ![]() |

Looks good, Gary. Is that the boat you took to Lake George?

The tank cleaned up very well. There was a little gunk in the corner under the filler but I was able to get most of it out. I was afraid of corrosion but it looked really good.
![]() Here are a couple of pictures in the water two weekends ago. I gave a friend (the P.O.) a ride and he couldn't stop laughing. He was thrilled to see it back in the water. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's going to look sweet after it's lettered and striped.I'll get some pictures when it's done. |

Gary,
It sure has been a long project but some do take time when you have so many other thing going on. I remember when you first started it so it's great to see it in the water. Looking great! ![]() |

Hi Bruce. The boat I took to lake george was the reason This mustang didn't get worked on for a couple of years. I sold it so I could devote some time to this one.

Pete, the neutral safety switch wires were well labeled and had an eyelet to go onto the two screws. This wire has a blade connector. I'll check the routing again and see if I can decribe it more clearly. Tim,the "keep it original" ship sailed awhile ago. I just need it to look neat. |

I think the ship has already sailed on the trim, Gary... It's hard to install after the fact (I'm assuming the floor carpet is already glued down). Just make a nice tight seam when you do the wall carpet, that's how it would have been done in years prior to the trim anyways. I've never tried doing the floors before the walls though- that may be another difficulty!
