We are sad to announce that the 2021 Lake Norman New Year’s Day Barefoot Tournament will not be held due to the increasing impact of Covid-19. Several contestants have already decided to stay home this year, and North Carolina has restrictions on outdoor sporting events which may become even more restrictive by January 1.
This is the first time in the over 40 year history of the event that it will not be held.
We’re looking forward to January 1, 2022!

My impression was NC and some of these southern states weren't even aware of a pandemic.

Was kind of disappointed it didnt happen this year as I was hoping/thinking/planning on making it this year (would have been my 3rd appearance).  But I did get out a few days later in honor  of another occasion. About a 100 point run.  Not a podium performance, but nice to get out.  Sadly, camera work got a little wonky at the end, so we will never know if I let go or faceplanted.

“So, how was your weekend?”
“Well, let me see…sun burn, stiff neck, screwed up back, assorted aches and pains….yup, my weekend was great, thanks for asking.”

Not exactly. The small hospital in my city has 12 ICU beds and they’re all occupied, 9 have COVID patients in them. Clemson University is 8 miles away and they have done a miserable job containing the virus, many students live in our community and congregate in off campus housing.  We have a lot of contractors in town to repair/rebuild the 300+ homes damaged by an F4 tornado that hit on April 13. These contractors seem to have a careless disregard for the virus. Our governor has done a great job of vaccine distribution. I got my first COVID shot this past Monday.
