1.  I like using synthetic ATF in my PCM and B/W transmissions
2.  Lapping a prop to the shaft is a waste of effort
3.  I've been using standard 10W 30 oil for years with no problems - ZDDP is a myth
4.  USGC parts are a "suggestion" and not a requirement
5.  I really love the styling of the new 2020 and 2021 Nautique boats
6.  Fuel containing ethanol will cause your engine to implode
7.  Fuel additives are the best money you can spend
8.  Synthetic oil is no better than regular "dino" oil
10.Wake-boats are destroying EVERYTHING.  Ban 'em!
11.Points are old technology and should be replaced with electronic ignition
12.The rear lifting ring and / or grab handle are designed to pull towables
13.Replacing a RR engine with a standard rotation engine with a 1:1 transmission will cause your boat to run out-of-control.  Beware.
14.KENO and Pete vacation together in the Bahamas every winter
15.Mastercraft boats are better
16.DUI distributors are the only electronic units to be considered.
17.QuickFuel carbs should be used to replace Holly, Carter, Edelbrock, or Rochester
18.Red color (gel coat, accessories, parts, etc.) make your boat go faster.

Pete and KENO were old college roommates and still have beers together on Friday night.
Hollywood is in the market for a Malibu.

And tbh, if I were to drop big coin on a modern boat it really would be the new ProStar.

I put the boat away, it was still running great so boats have been off my mind lately with other projects to do.  Stir it up JQ, and that is a brave look Ken.

I will share a cold weather story, Ken's picture reminded me of it.  Two of my buddies went to Montana on an Elk Hunt.  They were joining a group and had a guide.  These were the only two from California in a group of Northern Hunters.  They drove in at night, joined the campfire and met everyone.  Took all the CA sissy jokes that night.  The next morning it was in the mid 20's temp.  My buddy is a serious card so the two of these guys decide to go out and have breakfast with the group with no shirts on to show them CA guys are tough.
They are eating breakfast and one of the other guys sees a group of Elk about 800 yards uphill from them and they all start chattering about what a great hunt they will have, the Elk are close.   While they are looking through binoculars checking out the group they hear a BAM.  Spin around and my buddy with no shirt is putting his rifle down and sitting back down to eat breakfast.  Of course they all say what the hell were you doing.  He replies I shot the big Elk and now I am having breakfast.  They start babbling that he was too far out and probably missed by a mile.  He says I got it and it will be right there when I finish eating.  It was, and they had no more bad words about the Crazy California boys.  Both of them told me they were freezing their nuts off but refused to go get shirts till after breakfast just to set the tone.  They laughed till they cried every time that story came up.  Unfortunately we lost him 2 years ago to a heart attack at 62 but he lived life as full as anyone I ever met right up till the end.  Not quite Ice fishing but pretty dang funny for off season boaters to enjoy.

Pete and Keno are really the same person............burner accounts for everything (social media, cell phones, address etc....) and much effort put into not acting smart (too smart) on select subject matters (very few) to throw everyone off.  Can a picture be found of the two of them together...........that has not been cropped / photo shopped?  Could it really be????

Good thread start JQ...............I agree it has been quiet as of late on the forum.

I want to join the fight.  Here are my suggestions:

#19) pour in antifreeze or suck in antifreeze from a bucket?
#20) Casting plugs are really called freeze plugs.
#21) -100 (F) Antifreeze is the best too use.
#22) My stock 351 will run 55 MPH with no modifications
#23) My Ski Nautique has a 351 Cleveland Engine.
#24) Most Ski Nautiques were used for some period of time at Cypress Gardens when new.
#25) Snaps on the gel coat are the best way to install a proper boat cover.
#26) Mop N Glow will give a fiberglass boat a show room shine.
#27) Repainting a hull is much better than reapplying gel coat. It actually adds value.
#28) C. Quinner will only consume just a few Coors Light at a CCFan event.
#29) The New Nautique G Series Paragons are very affordable when financed for only 30 years.
#30) Ski Nautiques make some of the best fishing boats in the industry
#31) Underwater lights under your platform help attract cat fish for night fishing.
#32) Barefoot booms are used to drag fishing nets on the side of the boat.

Gotta Ski

NO KIDDING!!!!

We have a new O'Reilly's just up at the corner, which is really convenient, but if you go in asking for a screw driver they ask you for year make and model.  Drives me nuts just how little some of them know about what they carry.

Similarly, a few years ago, I lost a prop.  Just fell off.  I had a new prop coming.  Called local boat dealer, that at the time actually carried ski inboards, (Centurion) so they should have had some knowledge.(they have since gotten out of that market and sell tooners and center consoles now)  I asked if I could get a shaft key and castle nut.  Clueless.  Asked me year make and model.  "Doesnt matter, generic part."   Year, make and model?  Ugh.  OK, 1976 Correct Craft Ski Tique, with OMC 305 Chevy.  "No, OMC didnt make inboards, just I/Os"  OK Thanks, bye.

Year, Make, Model cont..... I was fortunate enough to have a unique Camaro back in the day. Went into the local auto parts store (Zone) and asked the young guy behind the counter for a certain spark plug......of course year make and model came up.  When I told him a 67 Chevy Camaro with a 302DZ engine he proceeded to tell me all  about engines and that Chevy did not make a 302......only Ford did.  It was an interesting conversation.  Thankfully an older (much wiser) man was working and gave the young guy some education on Chevy and Camaro's and I did get the spark plugs I needed.

Question - What would the over under be for the people on this site that HAVE tubed behind their Correct Craft / Nautique.......>/= 90%???

That is the beauty of Mop N Glow. No buffer needed. Just keep applying the liquid until you get the deep shine you want.

Tubing, Guilty as charged. Never behind my 95 but probably hundreds of times behind my 1978 Ski Nautique. We always had wars, driver against rider. The goal was to quickly throw off the rider. Does that count as anti tubing? We never had pretty tubes, always an old truck tube, the bigger the better.

Lol! Life on the lake in the 80s was basically game of throwns. Skiing or tubing. I still have all my limbs. Most of the carnage was behind the field’s 84 Supra.. but I did some damage pulling friends, off the rear lifting ring, of my 65 mustang. And behind my 89 sport.

Actually...... RED boats are the prettiest boats in the Nautique fleet followed closely by Seafoam Green, but just barely edging out Orange by a small .010 which also is the proper shaft alignment gappage.

Go Team Red.

1: Ha! I laugh big time. My crew scoffs. Sooo many posts regarding winterizing your boat. What? Never done it and ride year round here in San Diego. I know the tower on a ski nautique will also push a few buttons, but I don't need a wake to launch with the sit down foil higher than I want to go and my ski babes like the wake. Closed cooling system, manifolds and risers every 3 years, salt boat. 10 minutes to here from my house.
Have a nice winter and stay safe :)

Johnny,
I live in Clairemont Mesa. I like the winter because the colder temps discourage the jet fleas on the bay :) There is quite the crew here. We ride on San Vicente reservoir in the big boats that don't go in salt water. Here's a pic from last Sunday. 60 degree water 68 air.

It's mid February.  Wednesday night.  I'm boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics tonight -- I've hit my limit on dude skaters wearing pastel-colored chiffon blouses my Mom would be thrilled to own.  My fancy new Blue Oval F350 is at the dealership with a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor.  CPS is "backordered".  And to make matters worse...THERE ARE NO JUICY THREADS ON CCF RIGHT NOW.

Mrs. Quest wants to watch a "chick flick" on The Hallmark Channel together.  Maybe I'll go back to figure skating...

I may not survive the evening.

How about Ford vs. Ram.  I just ordered a big black beast, RAM 3500.  There's probably not much difference these days as far as reliability is concerned.  The 2003 F-150 I am currently driving has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned so I decided to switch to RAM.   Go figure.  I ordered it from a dealership in Louisiana so I hope the drive home goes well.

Boycott the chick flick and watch the Olympics!  We really enjoy the Olympics, would never consider not watching.  Am watching right now, just saw Chloe Kim win a gold medal in half pipe.

That park with the cooling towers is pretty interesting, was the first large scale steel mill and has been repurposed into this park.  There is a plan to turn one of the towers into a wedding venue.

I'm sure the truck will get sorted out and will run great for you.  My friend's 2019 F250 Powerstroke is running with no issues, I think around 80,000 miles and really a great truck.

Good luck with the Ram.. So far so good with our 2017 1500 5.7 crew cab purchased used in 2020 as an off lease truck. Tows the Nautique like a dream with the 8 speed trans and 395 HP at pretty much any speed. We can comfortably take the "western route" to FL where our earlier Durangos with Hemi and 4 speed trans were less than happy on the huge hills and had to run at high RPMs.

Only really annoying "feature" so far is that it doesn't allow putting it into gear with the door open and/or the driver's seat belt on. Not a problem backing up to the Nautique trailer that I can move by hand (at least a little)... But the 24' enclosed trailer was a real PIA when you needed to back up just another inch...get in close door, back up..... (yes, even with the camera)... Solution was a 15 dollar 3" seat belt extender... stays in the drivers seat belt receptacle all the time and the truck thinks I have my seat belt on... back up with the door open, no problem...

Good tip. Thanks. Gotta love the forums.  I found the dealership that is selling at about $10k under msrp on the RAM forum.  My local dealers wanted $5k over + 1800 in worthless add ons.

Don't sweat the truck Jonny

I heard from a friend whose uncle's wife's girlfriend's son works for Ford that they'll set you up with one of these for as long as your truck is dead

It's the King Ranch Pinto complete with a cow in the background Wink

You need to get on a good forum and ask if it can be coded. My new to me vehicle does kind of the same- you open the door,it stops and puts the emergency brake on. Found out for mine if you have the right interface you can go in and code all kinds of different stuff maybe this is one of them

I have a friend with a 16 Grand Cherokee that was stuck on the launch ramp for a while because of this "safety feature"

For years she could back it up with the door open, then it went to the dealer for some minor issues and the next day it was stuck on the ramp till some smart bystander said "try shutting your door and see what happens".

A call to the dealer let her know it was a computer software update that they did and didn't bother mentioning that it was done.

Like Gary said, if it was put into the computer, I figure it can be taken out/deleted with the right equipment Wink

Edit      It's a 2014, the 2016 models got a whole different shifter

Should I use carriage bolts or lag bolts to mount the swim platform on the 65 Nautique?

My '15 Durango "added" that feature when it got updated a few years ago.  At first I kept forgetting to close the door, now I'm used to it.  I don't find it to be a big deal, and when I think through the safety aspect I think it makes sense.  Someone is dropping off the kids at school, forgets the shifter is in gear and gets out to say bye to the kids, nice to know the vehicle shifts to park.

This was a safety recall for the 2014-16 Grand Cherokees,  The NEW Ero style shifter got a few people run over when they exited their vehicle thinking it was in park but wasn't.    They went back to a standard style shifter after that mess.  That young Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin got crushed by his JGC.   The shifter is so weird I don't let anybody back the boat down with my Jeep but my wife and she never leaves the vehicle on the ramp.  Not being able to back up with the door open is a bit of a nuisance but so is getting run over or having your Jeep roll into the lake, LOL.

I can see why mfgs are going this route with this type of safety feature. Gorgeous neighbor down the street pulled into their partitioned garage. Thought she had it in park and exited her Genesis.. As she got ready to close the door the car was in reverse and stared to roll backwards. She quickly jumped back in the car to hit the brake but hit the gas instead. She hit the supporting wall between the two stalls SO hard she nearly pulled the wall out off the house with the door. Managed to wreck two garage door tracks with her husbands stall door  barely hanging on by the opener and rollers on the other side.  The driver side doors' hinge was bent so bad you couldn't close the door. Had a contractor out to assess the damage to the house who informed them they are going to have to get an structural engineer involved to begin the work and it's a 3 month wait to get the car fixed professionally.   He was late getting home that day which saved his 4 year old truck because he was tied up with the police because his trucks window was smashed and his vehicle broken into while he was with a client for lunch... Talk about having a bad day.,,

Tim how long a wait to get it unprofessionally fixed?  I forgot about that star trek actor- makes sense  but that's on them for making a shifter that's not intuitive, our BMW had a confusing one as well. It was easy to drive around with but when going into something like a car wash it was like patting your head and rubbing your stomach.

My wife’s X5 has the same shifter issue, open the door and it’s throws the car into park.  Try to make small adjustments while hooking up your trailer and you can’t move this car unless the door is closed.   The really bad logic in this car is if the battery dies you can’t put this car into neutral to maybe roll it out of a parking place to jump it.   The only way to get it into neutral is to get under the car and tighten a release bolt on the transmission.  Yeah, you have to jack the car up to do that.   My garage is under my home, I like to jump in the car, open the garage door and let the car roll out of the garage before starting it to keep all that exhaust out of my garage.   There is no way to do that in her BMW, if you don’t start the engine you can’t shift the tranny.   Sure makes you love the old days and those simple cars that actually allowed you to drive them.
Yes her car drives very well and even tows well but most of the time I use the Yukon for towing, it still does what I tell it to do!

I once had a truck with none of these modern safety features.

Coming home one day, I had to take a leak so bad my eyeballs were floating

Was almost home and just couldn't take it anymore.

My wife saw the truck stop in the road out in front of the house, me get out and the truck start slowly going forward, followed by me running after it to catch it and slap it into park. She thought it was quite humorous since it was a dead end road, no neighbors and  nothing to hurt except maybe a tree and the truck (or me running along with that little thing hanging out)

The big question is whether I had that warm wet feeling as I was chasing after it or if the running and excitement let me hang on for another handful of seconds.

I guess only me and my wife would know the answer to that Wink

That is funny, sad but I can relate, many times I had to drive long distance to get home after road trips, sometimes 2-6 hour drives, driving the car I was fine, get home park, step out of the car and for Christ sake the cold hits and I had to run to the house to avoid wetting the pants.  Never understood how that could happen that fast after being fine in the car.  Asked my Doctor why, he says, you are getting old.  No solution, just you are getting older.  Starting to hate that guy.
To make you feel better Ken, I know of a guy that finished his restoration on a 1965 Corvette, it was beautiful, he rolled it out on his driveway to take some pictures, he has a long sloping driveway.   He closed the door and stepped back with his camera ready.  The car took off rolling backwards down his driveway with him chasing it.  His neighbor had a birthday party going on in his front yard, the car rolled in, hit two cars and came to rest in the neighbors party.  No people were hurt.  The Vette was not damaged badly and neither were the other two cars but it could have been much worse or easily avoided.  A restoration on these cars can take years and the destruction only seconds.  We all have our moments.
JQ, it could have been Commando, another option.

About three weeks..... She was driving a mini cooper for about 2 weeks then the Insurance company said " We ain't paying for a rental car for 3 months. Starting next week it's on your dime!" That's when the Come-a-Long was broken out and the door tweaked enough so they could close it so she could drive it. I was just over there last  Fri and he still has both Garage doors boarded up with plywood as if a hurricane is coming.

Dang, I guess I will have to pull the 406 out of my 1966 Vette and replace it with electric and batteries.  It would probably be faster!

As long as the seat belt is buckled you can open the door without the Jeep JGC going into park. You get used to it just like the tap shifter takes a while to get comfortable with.
Lucky it is not a manual :)
