Subject: Composite stringer cut in date

Hey folks, I briefly looked at an Sport today that I thought was a '94, but is a '93. Is it possible CC built it as a '92 and sold as a '93, and thus subject to wood? Can all this be verified by the hull ID?

Thanks,

Ultra

Highly possible for a 92 to be sold as a 93 but it’d be stamped 93. Either way I’m fairly certain only Ski’s were composite in 93 and the Sport wasn’t until 94. But I could be wrong.

I think you’re wrong.... Sport was redesigned for ‘93 (why template it the old way for one year?). The brochure lists ICS in 93 for ski and sport. The Excel on the other hand...

Wut.

Don’t confuse build date and model year (both are included in the HIN). We always talk model year. And we have never been given reason to believe that the switch to composite on the models that got it happened any other time than the model year change over. Cc wasn’t pumping out many mid year changes by the 90’s. Now, there may be a few 91-92 test mules with composite structure still around... if they weren’t cut up after going through the paces at sea world etc.

My understanding from the research I did buying the 93 I have was that it corresponded to the hull change.
If it looks like a 92 with the integrated platform and deeper hull with the lifting strakes on the bow - also foot space in the bow, it's the older and therefore wood stringer hull.

Like this one... https://boats-from-usa.com/correct-craft/correct-craft-sport-nautique-41441" rel="nofollow - 1992 Sport

If it looks like mine - shallower hull, flat bow seating, detachable teak plarform, etc, it's composite.

That's what I know. Maybe someone has better info.

Ok, all good intel Real. After a more careful look at the '93 brochure, it's clear the Sport got the ICS beginning that year. Good to go.

Thanks,

Build dates and model years can easily be determined by the HID Number. (Hull Identification Number) Search the Internet for the NASBLA publication. (Stands for National Association of State Boating Law Association) Therein you will find the key to decode the HID for all of the information contained therein. There are different systems for prior to 1973, 1974 to 1984, and 1984 to present.

Hey Art, thanks for the info on the Pub.

So, using that guide on this HIN: CTC 044195 K3 94 would indicate a Nov. '93 build sold as a '94. And it's the updated hull for that build-year, and thus has the ICS...

Now I want to go look mine up. Unfortunately I don't have it written down anywhere and the boat is wintering 140 miles away.

If you have the title or registration certificate where you are, those will have the full HIN on them.
