Hi,

I just bought a 1973 Mustang for a good price. The 318 it has in it needs freshening up. The previous owner reported a knock in the engine but did not run it to ruin. It still turns over. Is rebuilding a more economical alternative to a long block? I am fairly handy, have nice garage and tools to do most of the work except machine shop stuff. Has anyone been through a rebuild? I am also interested in hearing from folks who have gone the long block route. Mail me at jhoneycutt277@charter.net Thanks

your local napa will carry most of the parts/seals that you need. i have the catalog if you need any part #'s. the reverse rotation requires a special seal and the machining on the crank is rotation specific.

i lost a #8 rod last summer and time being of the essence, i just ordered a long block for 2k and stuck her in. a regular rotation motor would have been half.

post if you need help.

post some pictures.

I purchased a 1966 Wildcat with a 318 polyhead. I learned much valuable knowledge about my engine, by completely re-building it myself. It runs great, and I have the satisfaction of watching it run 5 grand at w.o.t. to 52 m.p.h.
