I have a 83' SN. I am unsure which way the engine rotates?

Probably RH (LH is automotive standard). Determine the rotation by standing behind the engine. If the top of the pulleys (or crankshaft) rotate to the right it is RH, if to the left it is LH.

If the engine ID tag is still attached to the engine, then the number gives a clue. RH engines will have an R in, I believe, the second place (PRD...) and LH engines will have an L (PLD...).

I have an 83 and it is RH, PCM 351. Both of my props (one is a spare, no twin engine Nautique here) have RH stamped on them so that's another place to check.

The stamp on the prop will tell what direction prop you have. Its not an, if XX then XX, relation to the engine. In 89 CC started with the 1.23 trans which allow for LH engines and still maintain the RH prop. Unless the engine was swapped out and a LH engine installed, the 83 will have a RH engine. However, you should check it as David F indicated.
