so Pete i looked at that wood boat today, its a 1947 chris craft , 22 ' runabout if the owner is correct.
if i can trust his knowledge he bought it 20 yrs ago and put it in his walk out basement. it is pretty cluttered and hard to get a good look at but has what appears to be an original motor(chrysler flat head straight six?) i saw seats in a corner what looks like an original engine cover windshield frame and misc chrome. the inside is painted red ribs and such the bottom is blue and is stripped plank mahogany? i will look at it again in a week .i will google the yr and runabout and see if i recognize it

It could be a Hercules engine too Peter. My Dad had a new '47 and he still talks about how much better that was than a Chrysler.Pete will know how to tell the difference.

Peter,
I don't know how I missed this post until now! Wow, I'm really slipping! Yes, Gary is most likely correct that the engine is a Chris marinization of a Hercules block. The Chrysler's were rare and a special order. Pictures would help!!! Are you planning on a wood boat purchase? Watch out if he tells you the bottom is fine and only needs soaking. BAD!!!!

I dont know that i am up for it right now if i buy it i will put it in the barn for a yr or 2 . its been in his basement (newer construction and climate controlled) for 20 yrs or so. it is prob going to be available to me for 3k or so its on a trailer. by the way engine is an olivey tan color if that means anything. when he comes back to town next week i am going to look at it again maybe some pics in and out if he decides to let me buy it .
