i just bought a cc american skier and have many questions.ill start easy,it was a 273 mopar with a velvet drive. can iupgrade to a 318 or 340 without many complications?such as a reverse rotating crank or maybe a sbc since i have a ton of those.
how about used parts such as seat frames and throtle cable and can i get a diagram of the block to velvet drive linkage?
ill appreciate any input about all subjects

Ray, I'm a Mopar fan from way back. I built a 273 and a 340 back in the day. However, based on the availability of marine engine parts, IF, and only if, my 273 was not serviceable and I had to change engines, I would drop in a small block 302 or 289 Ford.
I have never been too much of a Ford engine fan but I am very pleased with the small block Ford in my '68 and parts are available on every street corner (including Ebay).
Don't let the size of the 273 bother you - that's a great running, well respected engine and hi-po parts can still be found for it. I think you will find that it will push that boat as fast as you want to go.
Search for Chrysler marine parts and see what you find.
Be thankful you don't have a V6 Buick or something...

the 273 is rust ridden beond repair
ive rebuilt the water pump and exhaust logs are good i think my neighbor will sell me his
rebuilt 318 cheap but i dont think the linkage to the velvet drive is missing

Are both the 273 and the 318 reverse rotation engines?
