it's pouring rain,so i'm out in the old barn [and just as wet]wasting time when i find a box full of ol boat junk, gauges switches & stuff.i find a real nice tacheometer.stamped on the back is a couple #'s then 4cyl ?
is there a difference in a 4 vs an 8 cyl tach ? i do remember that i pulled it from an old 4cyl stern drive.
no brand name,black face,lighted,chrome bazel,0-50,but 4cyl ? would it work on a v-8 and be accurate ?

It would read double your actual RPM. Some tachs have a way to change from 4 to 6 to 8 cyl, but if it's set for 4, then it will count 2 revs for every 4 ignition pulses. You need to count 2 revs for every 8 pulses.
