Hello!
Its winter in Sweden and some time for improvements of the boat, a Ski Nautique 1998. I like to wakeboard and have some questions regarding ballast in my boat. How much weight should I put in the boat to get a good wave? I dont want to be too extreme, the boat must float as well. How much in the back and how much in the front - i would prefere to only put weights in the back of the boat if its possibe? I was thinking of some 600-700 kg (1200 lbs?) What can I expect from my Ski Nautique as a wakeboard boat? Thanks!! |

Put it all in the front
J/K ! You should be able to get a rideable wake out of that boat no prob.It's more about technique than wake size.If you put too much weight in the back,the boat will be awkward to drive,it will be hard to see where you're going,and it will handle like a Winnebago full of oxen. I would probably start with a 500# sac in the back and maybe a couple 150# sacks to move around foward to back to tune it in. You will have to reprop if you put the weight right to it(not to mention the wear and tear on your engine/trans). You're probably looking for a 60-70% rear bias. The more weight toward the rear = steeper,more abrupt wake and you may have to ride faster to keep it from curling on you.Get the shape/distribution right and add weight equally from there.You can also get a basic setup,then go out with some friends and move them around to see what happens to the wake.Don't go crazy,the kid I ride with can do multiple inverts/spins behind his 81 Ski Nautique with no ballast and the stock height ski pylon.....And that wake is small. I have a 1992 sn, And usually load it with 3 600 lb sacs, one in the back and the other two on each side of the motor box. It make a nice wake comming out of a ski intended boat. And when wake surfing I use the 150 sacs to move it around if i have goofy or regular surfers. ------------- <a href="">1992 ski nautique |

Let me welcome you to the site as a fellow European! I went quite a few times to Sweden in 2002-2003, when I took a leave of absence to work as a trucker for a year. Beautiful country!!
