Hey guys, what do the insides of the mid-70's muffler/silencers look like? Mine are just hollow fiberglass tubes. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. My boat is LOUD. Don't get me wrong, I love the V8 sound. But the sound level (especially for passengers at the back of the boat) is a little too loud. I'm thinking about putting some dynamat or something inside the engine cover but I figured I'd see if maybe there's something wrong with my mufflers.

Thanks!

This is a typical Centrex muffler like used on these. Basically as you look into either end it's like your looking down into a glass. The part that is cut out as you see here,is placed down to let the water drain out when shut off

Ok if that holds true for my mufflers, they were either modified by a previous owner or blown out and gutted themselves over time. This thing sounds good but it's noisy...

Anybody know of any good condition ones for sale? I need 2...

I don't think any 76's had mufflers from the factory, just straight copper tubes, so I'd guess somebody put in fiberglass tubes for some reason.

I guess the gods of noisy pipes haven't noticed your thread or they'd be yelling at you Wink

Haha yeah I know it's a controversial thing to say. And it's not too loud for me in the driver's seat, but no rear-seat passenger can hear anything at all while cruising. Buuuuut I'll probably just keep it that way Smile

My centak silencers have alligator cracks throughout the inside. Is that normal wear and tear or a sign of imminent failure? The outsides are fine.
