Hey gang, for those of you in central NC that store in your garage, do you winterize the motor or just drain the water? I'm going to store the boat in a partially below-grade, essentially heated, garage.

Thanks,

Ultra

I am also in central NC, and although its a huge improvement over central NY or Cape Cod or Connecticut, it can still get cold enough to ruin an engine.  Happened to a neighbor of mine.

I dont winterize other than to drain it.  That way, it is always ready for one of those rare, but it does happen on a gorgeous, warm winter day, ski outing.  I am careful about thorough draining, including all ports on engine, and trans cooler.  I am thinking this year of stabil in the tank as well, as in the spring I have been known to have a gunky carb.

Yeah, that all makes sense. The seller had planned on winterizing, so I'll let that happen.

Ok....in my defense, I'm calling this my "rebound boat". Not a rebound I didn't enjoy in my previous life, so I have the same expectation this time Wink

Yeah, Larry Boy you definately need to add Stabil to the fuel for the 2-3 months you won't use it. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Even non-ethanol in a carb for a couple months won't be the best for it. With the boats on my lifts here in GA I don't drain the water out as a norm. I've got bilge heaters plugged in for those nights when it drops below 32'F. Now if we lose power for a couple days then I'll be scrambling to drain a couple blocks.

I live near the Charlotte area and I drain the water. I put in STABIL a few weeks ago so it gets a good mix in the tank and fuel system. I also drain the oil and change the transmission fluid via a hand pump.  Later this winter I will do the fuel filter which is due and the impeller which is also due. I have not done antifreeze with my 2002 sport.
